Yep, since the fall out of Llangollen we had a number of members leave because they just wanted to support projects that were based at Llangollen (6880 is the same if you look at their info) and then there has been a number of members who were upset about the wasted money and decided to stop supporting. Luckily the numbers are now holding and we are still raising 1/4 of a million a year. And luckily we have already produced a lot of the locomotive so dont have as much left to pay for as other projects.

There is an announcement on the Elescar site about a strategic vision document that includes:

"New heritage railway destination, including a reconstructed 1849 Fitzwilliam locomotive, powered by sustainable fuels" (https://www.elsecar-heritage.com/ne...ision-revealed-for-historic-elsecar-ironworks

I'm not familiar with the loco, but there was an artist's impression in Trackside magazine that indicated an 0-4-2 tender engine of fairly conventional mid-Victorian appearance - presumably based on this photo: https://industrialheritagenetworks.com/2023/11/09/heritage-steam-to-return-to-elsecar/

I’m not a betting man but if I was I’d bet a king size Mars Bar* that it won’t happen in my lifetime (and I’m not planning on going early but that’s largely outside my control;))
Not sure you can get these any more. :(

Edited as I quoted the wrong post. Meant to be about the Elsecar dream.:(

I'm not sure I get what you're saying - you don't think Betton Grange will run in your lifetime when it's booked for a gala in February?

The new build 0-4-2 loco he’s referring to, I think.

Are we sure it’s not going to just be some sort of Hall with different nameplates on? ;)

I'm with Steve on this one. Full of the sort of corporate speak you'd use to impress a council with no real in depth planning. Sloganeering as I like to call it.

6880 in the guise of 6848 "Toddington Grange" on the "Cornishman" from Broadway to Cheltenham Race Course. Works for me! Looking forward to seeing this "Engineman's engine" in steam in 2024!

They certainly do, I wouldn’t notice if they plonked the plates on a similar loco!

In fact, unless it’s a Castle or a King (which look distinctive enough to me) I have to rely on the smokebox number plate to tell which brand of generic 4-6-0 it is, so if it’s in GWR colours and doesn’t have one, I’m scuppered!

In fairness to the 68XX Granges, their raised running plate over the cylinders is easy to spot - but to distinguish between different types of Halls and later Saints, I'm scuppered too!
