Mainline memory on the Lickey when you could look out of the windows, no diesel required, just a bit of help from the GWR ! 51284043468_3152ceb290_c.jpg

I'm somewhere leaning out of one of those windows! Lots of good trips with the mighty moguls. Can't believe it's 26 years since some of those trips.

Not a leaking tube. A leak further down around a plug, which gradually got worse during the first trip necessating 4930 super subbing.

Thank you for clarifying, it’s not been the most reliable engine on this visit.

The reality though was that 7325 did the lions share. The ashpan spray (fed from the injector feed - never a good idea) had been left on accidently on 42968 and as a result the feed to the boiler was reduced so the crew had to rein her in part way up.

Amazing really, they had to ease back with the safety valves feathering but managed to do this while keeping the regulator well into second valve?

Unfortunately I did not get a droplight, but was flexible enough in those days to look out of a toplight some of the time.

The last of those videos is of a different trip - the locos are in reverse order. The top photo was the first steam climb of the Lickey in the preservation era. The comment re easing back was from Jack Beaman who was riding on 2968. Bernard Rainbow was on 7325 & with others I was in the support crew. This was the last weekend of four which featured Oakhampton, Plymouth, Weymouth & the return to the SVR via the Lickey, Bescot & Gloucester.

I believe it’s 2253 that has failed. Apparently it was replaced by 4930 yesterday. 7714 still appeared to be running OK at 17.00 today.

No, 7714 has also failed. It had brake issues at KR this evening and was failed when it arrived at Bridgnorth.

7325 would be one of my lottery win recipients if my numbers came up.

Just stick the number plates on 7812 or 7802, nobody will be able to tell… :)

I believe there is historical precedence for this, 6990/7325 was disguised as 7325/6990 for "Goodnight Mr Tom"

I was just about to edit my post to mention that!

I’d also like to mention that the original batch of 20 Manors are ‘supposed to be’ rebuilds of 43xx moguls. I use quote marks as I’m not sure how much of the original’s were/are left.
I do take the mick out the GW but I am rather partial to bit of 28/38 or 78xx action.
