About half the 43s were reused according to Ken Cook, who was Assistant Works Manager at the time. However he doesn't say whether that's by weight, by value, or by number of pieces! Presumably in addition to that other parts suitable for refurbishment went into the pool. How many of the original donor parts are *still* on the original recipients after intervening overhauls is another matter entirely, and one suspects not that many.

I notice she is lacking a smokebox shed plate, which I previously thought was something the LMS always had - is this because she is currently (or is to be) painted to represent a period before these were introduced? In which case, when did the LMS introduce these smokebox shed plates?

She was intended to carry an 8A plate - Edge Hill - where she was shedded 26/11/35 to 10/05/41. Getting her back in action was a very rushed job and we just didn't get around to drilling the holes.

As far as I know, the LMS always used shed code plates right from the start

Pretty much every service has been standing room only (and even that was a push!) Hopefully that transpires to good revenue for the railway.

Looks to be going and sounding well for a loco coming to the end of it's operational period for now.

Is it known what the owning group - The Ivatt Class 4 Society - are planning to do with 43106 at the end of the current boiler certificate?

How bad is the s160 failure? Will it be repaired in time to make the GC gala?

I’d say 90% of those at the SVR this weekend are very much repeat custom.
Whilst I appreciate that it can be irritating to not always get a seat at an enthusiast event like this, what would you prefer?
The SVR did nothing, or the SVR puts on a bit of a show and shows what it can do before it stops operating for a while?
If you want to avoid the crowds it’s rather simple, just don’t show up for an enthusiast event!

I had not registered that it was an enthusiast event and was thinking of "normals" who would be put off a future visit.

Surely the only way around that would be to ban successful galas? It was the winter steam gala, normal fares suspended, etc.

‘Normals’ turning up on gala weekend might think ‘I wonder what it’s like when it’s quieter, maybe we could take a look’ surely.

But worrying people might be put off because something’s popular seems like a nice problem to have!

Strange. I was on the railway all day at Bewdley yesterday. We observed most trains as they went through and they appeared comfortably full but not with every single seat occupied.

To hold a full on gala in January was always going to be a risky business but I’m pleased it’s paid off. If you attend an event like this at the Valley you should expect crowds. The SVR management could sleep well last night, the sight of half empty trains would have been a cause for insomnia.

John I really don’t disagree with what you’ve said, personally I’m a little disappointed I can’t be back on my old stomping ground and having a pint with my friends in a certain other taproom. Last weekend seems to have generated a decent chunk of cash, this weekend seems to be going well too (despite a last minute failure) I really do doff my proverbial hat to those who have gone out their way to make both these weekends happen.
Isn’t it amazing what a ‘can do’ attitude can achieve?
