You I are absolutely right, a change of management has worked wonders. Every railway needs a GM like the one on the K&ESR. I just hope when the Valley appoint a permanent MD they choose very carefully.

So in the latest Railway Magazine (P56) the GM states that, 'something will need to be slotted into the works behind Taw Valley, but at this stage I would not like to say what that will be. With 7714 having 3 to 4 years left on its ticket, something will need to fill the smaller loco slot.'
This would suggest 1501 (still outside the MPD), 47383, 4566 or 5764 are likely candidates.
SVR folklore suggests that part of the justification for scrapping the third pannier is that it would provide a pool of spares and an under overhaul boiler to keep one of 7714 or 5764 always in traffic. What is the status of the' spare' boiler and is it still a viable proposition?
Gus also reiterated that contract work (like 34027) and societies that are actively fundraising for overhauls (like the EMF) are more likely to be the active locos of the future on the SVR, but the situation for next 3 - 4 years remains 'fluid'.
Either way, there would appear to be a slot available for something at Bridgnorth works in the next year or two.

I would suggest 1501 sitting outside Bridgnorth is quite telling really.

Spare Pannier boiler is the one that is sat in the yard, near the bits for the turntable

What also helps is for those engines who are actively fund raising people support especially with £££ but also in time with labour

Erlestoke Manor fund will in the not too distant future start to overhaul 5164 https://www.erlestokemanorfund.co.uk/the-big-large-prairie-appeal-returning-5164-to-service/

I know @2857Harry is supporting 2857 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100079876523458 and if people would like to donate it would be very gratefully received

    similarly 4566 https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088192667485 and a crowdfunding here https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/restore4566

unless we collectively back all these endeavours these loco's have a cold and ultimately uncertain future So please sign up, donate , volunteer

    Absolutely, agree with every word.

Put it simply 2857 has circa £180,000, in the bank. Is that enough? No it’s nowhere near enough. Even a rough estimate tells me that myself and other trustees need to raise the best part £200,000 more to even be considered for overhaul!

Haven't the likes of Heritage Railway and Trackside Magazines been suggesting it would emerge in a Blue livery anyway? Certainly isn't the first time I've heard the loco being turned out in Blue and was a few months back now.

Not seen the pictures myself, but good to see 60532 is so close to steaming again. My Grandad has been behind it over the S&C, but I haven't had a chance to ride behind it myself yet though (I've been eyeing up the SD trip to Kingswear so a part of me is hoping it hauls tgat.

I haven't seen 60532 yet. Regardless of livery, I'm looking forward to it

The annoyance that the new livery has leaked out is plain to see …

And rightly so. The bufferbeam red is very obviously the wrong shade and don't get me started on the typeface of the number! ;):);):):Woot:

Putting my pedant's hat on momentarily - it is exasperating, given Blue Peter has two core liveries - LNER apple green, but with British Railways number and branding, and BR Dark green with cycling lion or ferret and dartboard - that the use of BR express passenger blue is being used.

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...,_Barrow_Hill_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1593135.jpg

So this is anachronistic (BP had a single chimney and standard regulator setup when built) but it is a livery it actually wore.

    https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50090078927_c18bf32894_b.jpg

This is probably the most recognisable and authentic form.

Express Passenger blue was NEVER used on any of the LNER A2s or the sub classes with 6ft 2in wheels. It was only used on the 6ft 8in locos, to differentiate from the mixed traffic locos and the out and out express passenger engines.

There's also, arguably, the "not authentic but it has worn it before" full LNER livery with Darlington style cylinder covers and numbered 532.

Not authentic as BP was always 60532 having emerged under BR, not LNER, auspices. Still, looks good!

Will I still be happy to see BP in steam? Yes. Will it irritate the historian in me and LNER enthusiast? Yes. Will that make a jot of difference to anyone else? No.

So in short, great it's back, I'd have preferred a shade of green, it is just a coat of paint at the end of the day but please can we be clear about it for historical accuracy's sake.

For the record, no I am not particularly happy about the continuous inauthentic painting schemes that are being regularly turned out for some mainline locomotives. Just this man's opinion, nothing to see here!

Whereas, and I’m not saying your opinion is wrong, I’m the opposite end of the soectrum and am really looking forward to a Blue Blue Peter! If it was my choice I’d have the A1,2,3 and 4 all in Blue, as I personally find it the most attractive of the BR liveries.

But as you say will what we think make a difference to anyone, absolutely not! Just glad to see it back in steam :)
