Maybe given the owners leanings it should be BRexit Blue;)

FWIW my own opinion is how nice is it going to look charging around with the Saphos ‘blood and custard’ set? :)

    You may well jest.......
In the southern 'shires' it would likely fair well in a by-election or two just for being Blue as opposed to being lefty-Green :) There's method it that paint....

Possibly - though if we're going down that track, some might suggest that Stroudley Improved Engine Green might be even more appealing...

When we've had Bittern, UofSA and SNG all charging around the country (two of them in blue), I don't recall hearing of too many people thinking they'd seen 'Mallard' in steam. Honestly I think this idea that something has to be painted a different colour to distinguish it from 'that other one' is a bit of a red herring*. (*Or an engineers' olive herring... ballast hopper liveries matter too!)

However, the owners can paint it whatever colour they like, of course.

Personally, I'd like to see Green Arrow painted blue double heading with Blue Peter painted green, but that's probably just me.

I really find it fascinating how many different opinions there are in the steam world (Not in a bad way). I’d hate Green Arrow in anything other than, well Green! And even BR Green would be the ultimate, the LNER doesn’t do anything for me.

My comment may have been slightly facetious...

I dunno - perhaps it could be called Albatross again and then it could be painted white:). 00-4-8 3 60532 Carlisle copy_edited-1.jpg

Picture taken in April 2000, but I've long forgotten why it was renamed on that occasion.

Surely at a time like this where modellers are struggling to keep the hobby going (in some respects), heritage lines are struggling financially (not all but some of the main attractions), having something like Blue Peter appearing in Blue could spark a connection to the programme, national coverage etc... It's doing something to try and keep the average 2.4 family interested and make them go "ooh".

Flying Scotsman still draws the crowds in huge form when it ventures out, Tornado seems to do alright also, so having Blue Peter alive and in a livery that will make people talk and want a "selfie" for bragging rights can't be a bad thing surely? It's something just a bit new and a bit different that the average family may want to see - be it on the main line or at a heritage line.

As has been said back in the thread, it's just great news that another engine is returning after so long away. As for livery, yes it's not historically accurate, but who cares? Let's try and get some positive coverage for the scene, try and get a new generation talking and wanting to see it, become interested and hopefully a new generation of enthusiasts/volunteers could be brought in to help keep it all alive in years to come.

I think that may have been Geoff Dury’s pet name for 60532 Peter.

As long as they get the same-named television programme on board.
The back of my uncle's head was in the John Noakes footage of Blue Peter at Doncaster(?)

Viz comic don’t do it anymore but they used to have feature called ‘Lames to Fame’ where people sent in things like that, yours would certainly warrant a mention Mike :)

That's nothing, the back of his head has been in various TV shows...

It seems to me that for publicity purposes having a BLUE Blue Peter will attract Joe Public in a way that’ can only be a good thing, as few will know the loco was named after a race horse named after a flag!
As an aside, a long ago trip on the marches resulted in the banks being flattened and a very hard brake application being needed to get down to to the 75mph for the Severn Tunnel speed limit. A superb performance.

The only authentic livery is the one the owner chooses - it has always been thus…so you are all wrong…or all right!

As an aside, when my lotto numbers come in, you should all brace yourself for a few engines running around with Indian red frames!
