I thought it was us Millennials who are thought of by the older generation as entitled? Really interesting to hear the moans and whines by the usual suspects who complain about about why things were so much better in their day. FFS.

Worth looking at the post on CME for persons who have a reason to be unhappy tonight. 198 mins late and now on a bus.

But not through any fault of RTC (or West Coast for that matter), who are no doubt trying their utmost.

Absolutely; wasn’t pointing any fingers at RTC nor WCR, just stating what had just occurred last night. Haven’t heard from my elderly friends yet this morning and I’m loathe to wake them!

If most of this season is going to have to use the air braked stock, could the non air fitted locos, be through piped with a brake valve controller to apply/ release the brakes, with air being provided by the deisel ? that should at least improve the availability of having more engines,

Honestly hope they weren't too late back, have been in that situation a cpl of times and never a good experience. Seems some trains were running last night, so hopefully some passengers were able to transfer onto service trains.

That would most definitely have been the last tour my wife would have travelled on - ever! Luckily we weren’t there!

That is what was done sometimes for Steam on the Met. Diesel or Sarah Siddons at one end providing the air and a temporary air brake valve on the steam loco.

From what I could see on RTT a couple of trains left Preston southwards to Birmingham area. According to my friend there weren’t enough coaches at Crewe and he finally left at 00.20 in a taxi and got to his hotel in Rugby at 2am. I’m not sure what happened to the Euston passengers as I don’t think there were any going south by then due I guess to the engineering block but a friend who lives in Oxfordshire got home at 3:30am. In 1972/3 my Dad had to come and get me from Euston at 2am when one of two 37s caught fire on our charter in the Central Wales Line. Having never driven in London he was not amused as he also had to drive all my mates home to Kent.

(Referring to the GB...) Just for a moment, I hope IR's ever-reliable Fives aren't available and we get a Spamcan on the Highland Line. Wouldn't that be something?

Especially if it performs like 34004 did in the 1948 exchanges. :)

I was lucky (!) enough to be on the first coach to Euston after a frustrating and at points frightening trip (including spaghetti junction twice and some interesting diversions) we arrived at Euston at 0423

Not fun and despite the 100s of tours I've done will be serious considering before booking again for any marathon days.

While I'm not entirely sure if the gauging would be favourable towards a Bulleid, I suspect a Black 5 would be the rostered locomotive for Kyle. If we're assuming an air braked rake is still the main used rake by the time of the GB, it would probably make more sense for Tangmere to cover the majority of the English sections, Black 5 for Scotland? Second Black 5 perhaps for the Heart of Wales section?

I think the Kyle line would be a challenge for any Pacific even if it was in gauge. A hefty shove from the diesel would probably be very much needed IMO.

Of course, but if we're expecting the same stock as used on yesterday's WCME, a diesel will be accompanying anyway.

And based on the fact that most TOC's claim there are never any buses available to meet short notice network issues, great work by someone (WCRC control?) to get them organised on a Saturday night.

I recall that my taxi home on the Tornado trip came from Manchester driven by someone who had never been to London before!

Indeed, perhaps Avanti could learn something there...
