I was down the A21 just now, and there were dot matrix signs up, advising that from 5th February, the A21 between John's Cross and Hurst Green will be closed for 50(!) consecutive nights. Also, that Northbridge Street will be closed for four days next month.
Additionally, there is plant, and two floodlight towers in residence on Northbridge street roundabout.
Does anyone in the area (Harold, Mike?) know if this is anything to do with RVR enabling works, or is it just coincidental road works?
50 nights seems like a very greedy possession, even for the A21's track record ;)

This work is for a "A21 Safety Package" include signage, lighting, traffic signals, improved road markings etc.
One resident on facebook has commented "If you think this is bad You lot wait till they start putting those level crossings in"
I hope that they will proved wrong and the actual level crossing installation will be quite quick. However the preparation /service diversion works may take longer.

As has been said the A21 closuren is for "safety improvements" - I suspect that the North Bridge Street closure is related to these works - I can't find a seperate entry on the East Sussex website.

Thanks - I saw that facebook post. I am afraid that some Robertsbridge residents are obsessed that the Railway contruction is going to cause them problems. Clearly there will be closures but I suspect not for 50 consecutive nights. The A21 works have been going on for sometime - someone actually suggested that the works were connected with the A21 level crossing - they obviously couldn't be bothered to check National Highways website for an explanation as to what is going on.

Thanks, William. That "safety package" is an amusing waste of taxpayers money - when the 50 limit from Scotney Castle to Flimwell was imposed last year, it took just one day for some eejit in a Corsa to plough into the newly installed chevrons at Stonecrouch, closely followed by 2 fatalities at Bewl. Black comedy, really.

Hot off the press - Track Survey 4 - click HERE This section seems to have been fenced and is not as overgrown as I expected.

Trevor Streeter's Track Survey reviews are very welcome and interesting. As Harold says above, the Austen's Bridge to Robertsbridge Abbey section has been largely untouched and is not significantly overgrown. Perhaps then, trackbed building might start at this end as it might well be the easier option?
I was interested in an earlier post entitled Track Survey Up Close and Personal 2.2: A21 - Salehurst Halt in which TS stated towards the end: 'There are no plans to reinstate this (Salehurst) halt. I was under the impression from what I had read earlier that this was not the case. Has anything changed? Re-instating Salehurst Halt would provide an opportunity to show a Holman Stephens rudimentary halt as no others (neither Junction Road Halt nor the revival Dixter Halt) exist or have been proposed. Not only that, but an easy stroll from the railway halt to The Salehurst Halt public house would be an added attraction, would it not?

I'm not sure if re-opening Salehurst Halt would be allowed, the residents of the village were not exactly keen on having the railway return, i think they envisaged having Javelins hurling past at 225 KPH, plus, would a trip into Salehurst be like a trip to Royston vasy " This is a local village, for local people, we don't welcome outsiders here" Unless of course if you are young and viril, in which case my sister wants a husband

Maybe the outcome of the environmental studies will determine which end the construction will start. We will know soon enough,

With regard to Salehurst Halt - it's reinstatement is not part of the current plans but I don't think it has been ruled out in the future.

I don't normally bother picking up other people's spelling mistakes (I make enough myself), but I did start to wonder why why your sister would want someone who was "young and viral"
    - and then the penny dropped...

    "Not calling at Salehurst".
Puts me in mind of the rail corridor into West Berlin. Perhaps central door locking will be required, and "Potsdam Port" could be served in the buffet car?:)

Blame auto-correct, yes i did mean to type Virile, but the spell checker changed it to Viral.
