    Absolutely right. Thompson was a man of the time and at the right time for the LNER. It is sad that a few commentators in the immediate aftermath of his time thought to play down his value.

    That's generally not happened on here where from my perspective several people with more insights than myself seem to have taken a somewhat more balanced view.

    Absolutely true, and it's from some very specific individuals with a lot of influence on the railway, unfortunately.

    Hmmm...I think it's better now than it was in 2012. In 2012 I was basically at risk of being burned alive as a witch :rolleyes:;)
