What is actually left now and is it all owned by the same person/group?

The last I heard was that the frames were at the ELR and I think there were also the few remaining boiler parts with the frames.

Are the cylinders still in place?
Is there any of the motion?
Did the wheels ever resurface and where are they/who owns them?
    What about the tender frames/wheels/tank?

Such a shame that a potentially very useful and "right sized" loco has had such a tumultuous preservation history.

Locos have been rebuilt from much less. If there was a determination to make it happen I'm sure it would do. Seems more likely with the current owner than any previous ones at least.

I think (know) he's content to remain anonymous.
Doubtless it will become apparent who it is if anything ever happens with it. And no, it's not me:Shamefullyembarrased:.

Its an odd one, as whenever im out and about, everyone who ever mentions it seems to know who owns it.

As a huge LMS fan i would love to see him restore the loco. I had always thought that it would look great double heading with 5551.

Now there's a gala theme - Churchward, Stanier, Hughes, Gresley, Peppercorn, Ivatt and Riddles moguls; and couple of Maunsell ones to show the others how it should have been done ...

As far as galas go, this sits on the boundary of WIBN and possible.

There is little evidence of 2-6-0 operation I have found as they were largely ignored by the stop watch fraternity in favour of the 'glamour' machines - big, pretty colours, nameplates and, and this is important, smoke deflectors (I know some were painted green and some Southern ones had deflectors) - but as a type, they just got on with the job and did their work ignored, but probably generating more revenue for their railways than their more illustrious brethren. Whether Great Western, LNER, Southern or LMS, they seem to have all been pretty good engines and possibly a 2-6-0 gala might recognise this, assuming the punters would turn up? Certainly the Horwich Crabs were the best pre-Stanier engines introduced by the LMS, although the Fowler 2-6-4 tanks might also make a claim for this.

Did 2-6-0s and 2-8-0s leave track more often than 4-6-0s?

Would need some data gathering and analysis to prove or disprove that ' hunch' but generally Pony wheel Locos are not called upon to run at high speeds, the only one i can think of that was identified as problematic was the P2 / V2 which was more to do with the swing link than it being a two wheel truck per se... ?

You aren't really comparing like with like, as the 2-6-0s and 2-8-0s would be found more often in goods yards with indifferent track. I've seen nothing to suggest that that there were more derailments on the main line, but again, the 4-6-0s would often be running faster than the 2-6-0s, and certainly the 2-8-0s.

Indeed, it was said 9f's shouldnt be allowed to do 90mph because they had five foot driving wheels not because they were 2-10-0's.

A mogul gala sounds amazing. But I don't see that happening in the near future.
