Not sure I'd be doing driver experience with a fresh out the box loco

What nobody seems to have considered is the DAILY hire fee for Tornado. I do not know what this is for Tornado, but knowing smaller and less glamorous locos are going for £700-1000 per day, I'd put a bet on the first two courses at the very least having to cover that alone, and that's before you look at the other vitals such as coal, oils etc.

The fact the course is without rolling stock may be something determined by the A1SLT and not the NVR (just speculation, not fact) - there's much more to consider with these than some seem to give credit for.

Also worth noting that the home-fleet locos you can drive anytime at a cheaper cost, isn't everyday people have the opportunity to drive Tornado. Additionally, when Britannia visited Bluebell in 2019, the driver experience fee was £900 which sold out.

No mention of driving or firing though, which I think maybe could have possibly been the point that I may have been trying to make, but with so much tongue in cheek humour coming from rALPHw it is hard to be certain.

Latest from the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust:

January has seen significant progress made on Tornado . All motion, lubrication systems, brake rigging, valves and pistons have been returned to the locomotive. We have also advanced the installation of fitments in the cab and smokebox. It’s all coming together!" IMG_0978.jpeg IMG_0979.jpeg IMG_0980.jpeg

Do we infer anything from the slightly butchered cladding at the throatplate?

15 years ago ‘The Talisman’ ran from Darlington to London King’s Cross. This was Tornado’s first train to the capital, and thousands turned out to see the new steam locomotive:

Must be related to the interference fit between the drivers and firebox.

You mean it isn't? You'll be telling us next that you can put the brake handle in various positions rather just off and on!

Nah, that was when Simon paid £450 for Flying Scotsman’s trip from KX to York back in 2016 ;)

    Miaow!

I loved that trip, thoroughly enjoyed it. As a one off, it was worth the money and I can say I was there.
