    Thanks again for these updates.
The lubrication pipework is very neat and well finished - as is the rest of the work on this locomotive....A big "Well Done" to ALL concerned.

A good observation Phil. The lubrication pipework is simply an obvious illustration of the overall quality of the whole build by a brilliant engineering team.

Obituary. The Trust lost one of its brilliant and talented workshop engineers a week ago. Alan Harris will be sadly missed by all who's lives he touched with his cheerful and skillful presence. RIP Alan.

I for one hope that the SVR, under its new management, will see the financial advantages of including 82045 in its fleet asap. A brand new, efficient and shiny loco just out of the box and built on site is bound to attract plenty of enthusiasts and members of the general public.
Surely a publicity bonanza too good to miss!

I’d have to agree with that, whilst I understand that the locomotive situation at the SVR might be ‘fluid’ shall we say, I was always under the impression it would be a machine to be based in Shropshire and be maybe a bit of a roving ambassador?
I really hope I’m not reading a little more into this than I should.

My understanding is the same Matt. The loco was always intended to be built by SVR volunteers and staff. Based on the SVR. As the web site says. “Practical Steam for the 21st Century”. Some away days are always possible. I think the SVR has an extremely valuable asset in all senses, which will bring in enthusiasts, financial income, publicity and the general public to see the magical rebirth of a once extinct class.

Yeah, that update did look a bit odd

From the SVR's point of view, I suppose they always need to ask themselves what they want and need. 2025 is far enough away to not be relied upon, but close enough to have to be planned for.

Is a std 3 big enough for peak hauls on the SVR?
Do they have enough reliable, known engines for that period.
I can see a scenario where the SVR would quite like it to be finished later, to fit other boiler ticket schedules, and concentrate on getting known engines into service for now, and get 3MT in service n many years later when they know whether it's a useful engine for them, and ensure it's shakedown/running in time isn't when it is needed.

I think this is always a risk for a new-build, it's value almost lies more in the future than now.

OTOH, plenty of smaller lines that are extending out of shunter territory that would presumably love to have it if the hire price is right.

Or take it to the IoSWR for some big chuffer-itis...
