Many thanks for those kind words John.
I last visited this exact spot back in 2011 https://www.flickr.com/photos/10257146@N05/5572011678/in/album-72157619301019091/. so yesterday with the wind from the SE it ticked the boxes to go back and what a lovely spot it is.

Returning for a moment to the WCME what a contrast for the driver, Steve Chipperfield; on October 07 BIL struggled with adverse railhead conditions and Steve coaxed her from a stand and thro' R&W at 8.5mph, on Saturday with the same number of coaches hauled by 44871 the train "flew" thro' the station at 43mph - FIVE TIMES FASTER! What a difference four months (and a 57) make.

Thanks to those who posted videos from Shap - the sounds were wonderful. Tangmere does her best but a black 5 sounds like the real deal. I know that a noisy exhaust can mean wasted energy, but it's not wasted on me.

I'd say the 57 made a LOT of difference.

Me too. It probably added a weight of around oooo I dunno a Class 57 maybe? That’s definitely a difference. Which probably meant that weight had to be accounted for in powering the train. And I dare say a Class 5 or Class 8 on same/similar tonnage was a consideration. Who knows! Either way that train ran with a lot of happy people

Not quite sure what you are trying to say, the subject of CDL has only been moved to a dedicated thread as it was cluttering up the WCME/CME thread, it's something we regularly do when thread drift threatens to swamp the original topic. Maybe you just want to make an issue of it?

Not at all. I was merely saying it’s been moved for now until the same issue crops up after the next CME! I don’t envy your task of moving stuff after every WCR tour this year!

There is a thread already to discuss CDL as it affects WCRC and the judgement by ORR at:
    https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/orr-and-wcrc.1423255/page-33#post-2861704

Like it or not, it's only WCRC for whom the matter is an issue. Every other TOC is managing it, it seems.

What's the verdict on what will be on the WCME on 16th March?

30th March is scheduled as the first Northern Belle steam hauled so Tangmere is theoretically free on the 16th.

The rule of thumb is that a class 47 / 57 is equivalent to 3 coaches (@ 40 tons gross = 120 tons).

It's only my thoughts, I have no info from WCR on the subject, but as I intend to do the southbound Carlisle to Crewe I hope it is right.
