Well yes you will be adjacent to one or the other, but sometimes on the front and sometimes on the back with the Battersby reversal.

The website makes two references to "our steam locomotives for the day". See post #8.

This unusual tour by steam train visits the popular east coast seaside town of Whitby. We make our way from London to York, where our steam locomotives for the day are attached. We shall travel through Yorkshire, Teeside and the North Yorkshire Moors to reach Whitby. Our featured steam locomotives for the day will be taken from the Carnforth pool.
There will be time at our destination to visit the attractions that Whitby has to offer.

Steam to Battersby then dragged to Whitby, steam back and then dragged to Stockton i imagine. Sounds great, steam.up front for all the best bits.

Hang on a minute why is the train 'dragged' when the diesel is on the front and the steam on the back, but not when the steam is leading with the diesel on the back?

Is anyone that interested really in what the diesel is doing, other than hopefully not too much. The 'steam engine' is the object of the sentence and the reason for the train running. So it leads and when its not leading it is dragged, or other similar description. They could run round both times at Battersby I suppose, but its hardly worth the faff.

    Should be cracking either way.

Given that you can have steam in and out of Whitby on the NYMR, the whole value of this trip is less than was originally advertised. Luckily I was on the equivalent trip in 2017 with 61264 and 76084 (tnt). A very well organised and executed trip.

Sadly for the RTC they are only able to do what is now possible. I wonder whether WCRC cares about the knock-on effect of trying to arm wrestle the ORR to the ground? (No, that's not a 'pop' at WCRC but actions have consequences and I just feel sorry for people and organisations that are affected down the line.)

Sorry for late reply, away all today, yes the train was full, the only fault I had was why take the whole consist through the avoiding line to Holgate sidings instead of letting the York passengers off first?
They released the Black 5 first, then the Electric locomotive was added, still with class 47 on the rear to drag us back into Platform 4, we had to wait more than 30 minutes for a path back into York, in which 3 trains I could have got to get home passed us
Anyway enjoyable day apart for grim weather in Whitby
    Neil

That was pathing to get you in to a platform for long enough. The time you arrived with the 5 on the front there wasn’t anything suitable at all.

I hope that you were not dragged back into Plat 4 with an electric loco attached:eek:. I'm sure we would have heard about it if you had - electrics that go down there find that they are a bit stuck:).

Look on the bright side, Neil - southbound via the avoiding lines is rare track for passenger trains. Northbound, I think that one or two of the Lumo services, which don't call at York, are pathed via the avoiding lines, but southbound trains just run through the station, to avoid potential conflicting moves by having to cross the down lines twice.
