You mean something like DRS do Fred?

In all seriousness I wouldn’t say it’s impossible but I’m guessing for an event like that to happen it’s going to depend on some cooperation between those at LSL, NRM, A1SLT Riley’s and WC.
Why is it I get the feeling that West Coast’s management would be the ones to deliberately find a reason for this not to happen should it be at Crewe?
Could it possibly be occur on a neutral ground like Barrow Hill maybe?

There was an attempt maybe 12 years ago to do the A1 A2 A3 A4 line-up at Barrow Hill but 4472 didn't make it. Things look good for another go at that soon...

I did think of that when I posted, but I don’t see relations between those at the top of LSL or West Coast being very cordial at the moment (60007 and 60532 being in the LSL operating camp and 60163 and 60103 in the West Coast camp)

For it to happen is going to take a massive amount of cooperation between 2 TOC’s that don’t see eye to eye and several other 3rd parties that are going to want a slice of the action too, quite a few heads are going to need to be banged together and certain people will need to put there ego’s to one side before it happens I’m afraid.

Isn't Scotsman on the books of both DBS, and West coast, as was Tornado, so in theory the NRM, and A1 trust could ask another TOC to facilitate to move, but why not hold it at the NRM, scotsman is already there, its not going to ruffle feathers either.

Yes, I noticed the different font style for the cab numbers. But we have come to live with the curious '6' on Royal Scot where it looks as though the numeral has been over-rotated slightly anti-clockwise.

I'm surprised though that we are not more relaxed about colour and detail as long as at some time between overhauls the loco carries the number and colour it had traditionally. Actually what is far more important is that the boiler and mechanics are fit for purpose and keep the loco operational throughout each cycle.

Here's hoping that it never suffers a repeat of the incident that broke it. I'm looking forward to a run behind it and am already saving up to do so.

Apropos livery: long before there was even the uk.railway newsgroup to grumble about railway matters online, was any print space devoted to its initial running as LNER 532? I'm sure I recall seeing it on the telly as such on the aforementioned programme and I also seem to recall that was an inaccurate livery too: when was 60532 actually built? Something tells me the earliest correct livery would match it to 60163's current livery, but I could be wrong.

It carried apple green, but not the LNER lettering, nor '532' that it carried in the early preservation days. It was 60532 from new, and 'British Railways' was on the tender. It was outshopped in March 1948. Unlike the A1s, it never carried the BR Blue, being apple green until Sept 49, when it got the coat of BR green that was the only other livery it carried (source BR Database.

All of the A1s after 60152 (Aug 49 onwards), plus 60127-9 (May-June 1949) were outshopped in blue, the rest were the insipid old apple green, so Tornado would have been a blue'un from new had it been built at the time of the rest of its class.

So it would have been the same as Tornado is at the moment?

Now that's an interesting thought: Tornado could also be considered to be in an 'inaccurate' livery?

As far as I can make out, none of the A2s carried BR Blue.

...until now. Was hoping for Apple green/British railways, was expecting BR green late crest but this is a really interesting if not historically accurate choice... and wondering whether blue backed name and number plates would complement the 'look'.

I remember someone posting the BR Livery Guide on here not so long ago and it explained why it wouldn't have been in blue - something to do with it only having 6'2" driving wheels?

As I've said before, only 'Teddy Bear' has seen them in blue :)

    Aaaah, got me .

Look at Clan lines support coach though.. much classier - but its a different kind of bogie apparently a commonwealth bogie has differences that need to be highlighted like they are radioactive or something.

I remember when the axle box covers were not just yellow but also had a horizontal red stripe on them - which I thought denoted roller bearings.

Would you prefer something more subtle from Farrow and Ball's latest collection, a pastel shade perhaps…?

DB had a contract for the Scottish Tornado trips (unless they have formally withdrawn from that now) and as FS is "out to tender" who knows who may operate that.
