What makes you think there will only be 7 or 8 on? I cannot see RTC operating with less than 10.

If this is the case (only 7/8 on + POB + Heat BG = 9/10, still doubtful) I hope it doesn't mean missing the Appleby water stop like 6233 did on the last S&C trip, another missed shot for the chasers. Harold.

I was contacted by them this week and asked to move seats further forward as they were shortening the train. I was in the second to rear carriage originally.

Thanks for the info. Might only mean a shortening from 13 coaches to 11 rather than down to 7/8.

I don't have the paperwork to hand but if I remember correctly the original Carriages were lettered A to H before this late change which would suggest something a little shorter.

Still going to be be a good day though on Lizzie. \:D/

I wonder if all those who berated the 6201 crew and doubted their ability to get her out again will now consider apologising. :-k

Snowball and hell spring to mind.

well they have been proved wrong and lizzie made it back to the mainline.......and looks to be running better than she has in a long time, I doubt there will be any apologies though, especially over the personal attacks. but the main thing is lizzie is back on the mainline(at the moment LOL) and that should be the focal point for any true enthusiast rather than spending hours backstabbing the people that work so hard to keep the running for all of us too see, and that goes for every loco support crew, not just lizzie =D>

Whatever the insults and arguments, while she is back on the mainline it does not deter from the fact that there are questionable aspects to the way that the Society has been run and operations managed. There are still irregularities on the face of it into who has fingers in what pies and this story will run and run.

There is more to operating a loco than actually operating a loco...

still no excuse for the personal attacks etc etc. and from what has been found during the works on the engine, there has been fingers in pies, but not the ones attacked on here, and youre right this post wil run and run until the people that have the FACTS want them out in the open (im sure they are on the grapevine by now anyway), but from what i have seen (real factual evidence, and not gossip from the HC) some of the posters on here may not be too happy about it being told, and their reputations tarnished , it seems from todays run, lizzie is in good proffesional hands at Crewe. and if all the doom mongers and armchair critics turned their efforts into supporting a loco rather than backstabbing the people who put their life and soul into keeping it out on the mainline where it belongs. The society would be in a lot better position to keep it there for a good while longer.

Well I asked many months ago what the future for 6201 was. Today I saw her erupting from Moorcock Tunnel bang on time and, in the process, reminding me why she's such an excellent loco. Whatever has happened over the past 9 months, I'm very thankful that 6201 is back, and back like she has never been away. Well done to those who keep her on the mainline.

It was "doing it's stuff" in fine style going up out of Leeds yesterday, bang on time. It looked splendid.

Having followed this thread with interest, but with no bias to either side,
I had the impression it wasn't the crew who were being berated,
    more the 'management team'

OK efiste - if you have something to say - Say it.

There has been no criticism of the volunteers - those that are left that is.

Without mentioning any names, might I respectfully suggest that it is one (or more) of the actual team involved in the day-to-day management of the locomotive - and their arguably unreasonable attitudes, these dating back over many years - that has deterred a significant majority from supporting, both physically and financially, what is surely one of our favourite locomotives?

Such words as these come from one who would never consider himself to be a 'back-stabber' and certainly not one who has ever possessed any particular personal affinity to an armchair! In one's own defence, I merely would prefer all to be made aware of the fullermost facts, thus permitting them then to make their own reasoned decisions upon whether their support is to be offered should the situation improve.

By the way, I watched 6201 climb past Sherriffs Brow on Saturday afternoon and, despite the weather, it looked and sounded spot on mechanically! Let's but hope that when it's boiler ticket is up, 'Princess Elizabeth' will then elicit enough financial support to effect a speedy return to what it does best!

I agree that is was the management who were singled out for most criticism, but there were those who at times seemed to doubt the ability of any of the 6201 group, either support or management to get things sorted, particularly being based at Crewe. :-k

With some proper planning/marketing for fund-raising, good judgement, a little foresight and a slice of luck along the way, there is no reason why that cannot be acheived - is there?

I shall choose my words carefully !!!

I cannot help but feel that one protagnst on this forum and a competing one have in the nicest sense a vested interest in the loco , having been involved in the overhaul and subsequent maintenance . Now there is no doubting the workmanship but the question is why did the relationship breakdown and how much does that effect the postings.

6201 isn't the only one with problems . 6024 had all the issues regarding it's engineer and subsequent to his departure the engine has struggled with availability . The two may well not be linked but no-one has made such a mountain as with 6201

Now i'm not saying that the 6201 society and it's committee are perfect but they at least give their time and energy to keeping her going against at time steep odds . In order to run steam on the main line very deep pockets are required and I would argue we all have real rose tinted glasses on in our view of main line operation . I cannot see how steaming fees earned from main line tours can in any way pay for the maintenance and future overhaul of increasingly old engines and no amount of badges , books and DVD's are ever going to make up the shortfall so unless you have very deep pockets or the economics of main line operation change many of our beloved charges are going to retire . I wish CHC well in their endeavours , Crewe needs a place to remember it's heritage and maybe 6201 can be the catalyst of that and in so doing reinvent itself
