Why?

 

Which is one of the reasons why I have stopped doing mainline trips. There is now effectively a fairly small list of 'core' steam routes, and so little steam goes anywhere else. I totally understand why this is, but it is a pity.

Does anyone know what is hauling the outbound leg of Saturday's trip to Newcastle? Steam Dreams site just says "diesel or electric". Deltic possibly?

 

90001 I believe is the booked loco.

 

60007 on its mammoth run from Newcastle to London Kings Cross yesterday, captured at Bawtry Vaiduct, Frinkly Lane & Arlesey

 

60007 SNG running fourteen minutes down at Grassthorpe Crossing north of Newark.

Working hard through Knebworth last night on the fast line for a change...

 

60007 on a brief call at Peterborough on the returning charter from Newcastle to Kings Cross (together with 44871 earlier in the day)

 

B1 61306 Horsham to Bath and Bristol on 20th April. Tour now returns diesel hauled.

Yes and it’s the summer LSL Lydeard engine too I believe. Alongside a big Blue loco

 

The return ECS from Horsham had a water stop at Warnham when I looked the other day, it’s now changed to back via Brighton main line.

Indeed, and it must be quite uncommon for a water stop to take place even before passengers are embarked, at Warnham on the way down!

 

Converted to a plug-in hybrid...

That is not quite the case, steam always was used from Southend and back until approx 10 years ago then it was steam out and diesel and return now sadly its diesel out and back from Southend which destroys all interest for many folks.
