One member has asked if it was Peter Walker on the return. It looked like him to me. Certain talk on the train about the south bound climb to Shap being one of the fastest in preservation. Must be up there for a 4-6-0.
A thrilling day all round. Good weather, bad weather, Two steam in Carlisle together and a wonderful, noisy, superb loco in 46115. This really was a day to remember!

Really glad to see your various reports and videos of how well this loco goes.

I must say I'm pleased to see so many of the younger guys being impressed by it after being told here that I was dreaming about how good they were.
The word was that the 17" engines were almost indistinguishable from the Scots.
Pity we haven't got one of those.

I'm really jealous now, all you guys up north have seen it, hope it comes South at some time.

Would be nice to see it take a tilt at the South Devon banks.

A real credit to David Smith and his team at Carnforth.

    Cheers Dave

And indeed they are, but in a different way...
See, or should I say, hear about half way down this page (34092, Headingley).
However, I have to admit that I do prefer this one (the second recording near Kirkby Stephen) for sheer drama!

Just seen a caption on the PSOV website under a still of 46115 worded to the effect that the south bound run from Penrith to Shap summit was the fastest EVER IN PRESERVATION!

Woulden't suprise me, the sustained effort on Grayrigg northbound and Shap southbound was outstanding.

This was an exceeding good effort, but not the fastest in preservation in either direction.
The southbound run apparently was no 5,from a standing start from Carlisle to post 37.5,in a time of 36mins 49 secs with a load of 11/383.5 whereas the fastest was Blue Peter on 10th July 1999 on 10 for 356 in a time of 34mins 43secs.The other three places are taken by 71000 (2) and 60532 (1).The best effort by a class 7 by a long way.The Penrith to 37.5 time was the forth fastest since preservation.
