Photo charter that hit a washout, according to someone who's posted on Facebook that they were on the train.

I wonder if a washout is the right description? The line is on a thin embankment here, and there is no lateral support for the sleepers. Many sleeper ends have no support underneath .

Scroll to about 1 min 30, a video of the actual incident. I didn't notice it first time round but the roof gets blown off the fifth carriage shortly before the first couple of carriages get blown over.

Loco rescued today, doesn't look too badly damaged - slow speed and on to sand has probably helped.

 

Sadly one of the passengers involved in the accident passed away a day or two ago, having spent most of the last 6 months in Argentine and UK hospitals.

 

Indeed, sad news, and a nice guy from the few times I met him. Bless him and may he rest in peace
