That was well in command with the 47 only taking its weight. Fair play to the LSL crew for not requesting much from the rear.

You are right, back in steam days it would have been seen as a good unassisted climb of Shap. The last time I went in 67 it was virtually all Britannias and Black Fives.

Looks like both sides were off judging by yours and Neil's photos. A shame as everything was looking good after the cylinder and crosshead repairs.

The rods would have to be removed for the tow back to Crewe

The loco appears to have been in at least light steam. That would make sense for lubrication if one piston was still in business, but why if both connecting rods were removed?

During the week the weather forecast for today gradually improved. With a warm, sunny morning and only a gentle breeze from the NE forecast, Oswald decided to head north. After consulting the weather forecast, RTT and a "sun position App" I settled on Greenholme (or maybe Scout Green), I'd decide when I got there - wherever "there" happened to be! When I left home Mrs W was already up and about, Diego, everyone's favourite Tabby, had come in and made himself at home (as he always does).

The traffic on the motorway was moderate but moving well then a surprising number of cars headed off towards Blackpool. After the Blackpool turning traffic was light, and once north of the Kendal/Barrow turning, was sparse - just the way motorways used to be. As I neared my destination, I finally decided on Greenholme. When I arrived, about an hour before the train was due there were only two other cars. I parked behind one and then passed the next few minutes chatting with its occupant, a photographer who had travelled down from Scotland.

I went for a wander to stretch my legs and decide on a location. One or two more cars arrived, a couple of familiar faces. Not long before the train was due there were perhaps 10 people to record the events on video or still image - perhaps more on Thursday?! RTT showed that Braunton had left Grayrigg loop 1L, behind the late running Manchester Airport to Edinburgh which had already passed us.

The sun had been shining brightly all morning but now some thin hazy cloud drifted across, not enough to obscure the sun but enough to tone it down a little - perhaps not a bad thing. Away in the distance looking towards Tebay a grey haze drifted up from behind the hill, the haze approached and followed the curve round from behind the trees. Braunton appeared, a stream of translucent grey smoke rising from her chimney. In the gentle breeze the smoke was going nowhere quickly, it trailed out following the line of the train as it swept around the curve. A whistle, always welcome, some chattering from the exhaust and past, but the haze lingered. Not much action from the tailgunner (that I could hear). 19C, RT & 58mph.

I arrived home shortly after 1pm whereupon Mrs W and Oswald Jnr went out for a walk, I was left "in charge" of Diego (although anyone with a cat will know, there is only one party in charge and that is not the human). 10 minutes later, Diego appeared, headed towards the door and left. Was it something that I said?

Having 'liked' that video for the locations and shots of the train, at this point my 'like' ends.

There is not a great point in me seeking out these shots of Saphos trips in future as, apart from picking out the good videos such as those by @sgthompson I do look forward to seeing steam in action but the result is always the same with this set-up. A loco working within itself in a dual power situation.

I guess if you are too young to remember what it used to be like on Shap or Ais Gill, and I don't mean in the 1960s, then these clips do the job. So well done to those who go out with cameras.
