Rumour suggests the train got stuck climbing out of Glenfinann.

Scot Rail cancelled a Mallaig service at Fort William.

No, no doors means no passengers in that coach at all. CDL should operate through the RCH jumpers on the end of the coach, which appear to be connected, so no issues there.

I do wonder whether WCRC are even allowed to operate the non-CDL fitted vehicles within a passenger train. They must be on very shaky ground with the whole operation.

Thats like saying they can’t operate the kitchen vehicles or support coaches within a passenger train then, which is not the case.

They are able to operate, but as you state the passengers carrying vehicles must have CDL

You may be right. RTT has no live timings for The Jacobite since Glenfinnan, and ScotRail 1Y41 was indeed cancelled at FTW. So something certainly seems to have happened.

If a carriage key is used to externally lock the doors I think they can carry passengers. The regulations do not allow doors that can be opened by passengers.

Equally, I don't think you can carry passengers in coaches with no doors in use at all.

Aren't all those Mk1 kitchen and buffet cars used by WCRC and Riviera in Mk2 rakes non CDL, just wired through with doors locked.

Return Jacobite working cancelled on RTT. Further ScotRail cancellations as a result. Not a very successful first day!

It certainly happens on the FfR. The NYMR have been in discussion with the ORR regarding locking doors on Mk.1 stock as an alternative to CDL. I don't know what the outcome is, though.

Today's formation is 45212, Mk 2, Mk 1 RMB, Mk 2, Mk 1 BSK, Mk 2, Mk 1, Mk 2. Effectively, each Mk 1 is sandwiched at either end by a Mk 2 meaning that if it assumed the doors on the Mk 1s are locked then there is a CDL fitted door available in the adjacent vestibule of a Mk 2 for use as @martin1656 suggests if that is considered acceptable operating practice. From the video posted above it can be seen that there is a large notice posted in the door window of each Mk 1 but unfortunately not readable - perhaps directing boarding passengers to the adjacent door?

the FfR is a bit of a special case in that regard though, I think it's in their original Act of parliament isn't it? It'll certainly be interesting to hear what comes of that discussion between NYMR and ORR though.

But by locking the doors with a square key means passengers are unable to open the doors in an emergency. As @Steve says, it's done on the FfR on the older stock with outward opening doors, but that's due to the tight clearances, and they believe the risk of an open door hitting a tunnel wall outweigh the chances of needing to evacuate a train.
Also, the locks are at a reasonable height above rail level so the guard can unlock them in an emergency. Sliding door stock has an access handle near each set of doors to allow ingress from outside. CDL stock has an isolating switch outside near the doors to allow them to be opened in an emergency. MK1 door locks are about 8' off the ground! No good in an emergency.

I can only see the one Scotrail cancellation, which I assume was caused by the Jacobite, although according to RTT that made it to Mallaig, so maybe that was wrong.
Although according to National Rail this is occuring today

An object being caught on the overhead electric wires between Dumbarton Central and Helensburgh Central is causing disruption to journeys between these stations. Trains running between Glasgow Queen Street and Mallaig / Oban / Helensburgh Central may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

    Customer advice

Rail replacement buses are in place running from Fort William to Mallaig.

I swear I read somewhere a restaurant vehicle would have to exempted (from an exemption). Short of making it verboten for the public to enter. Im sure diners and people wanting a couple of cans of soda pop would love to be turfed out.

I haven't been to the Spa Valley since 2011, but I am sure they locked the doors at Groombridge before proceeding onto Eridge.

Only on the side adjacent to Network Rail. The doors in the opposite side are left unlocked to allow passengers to get off in an emergency situation

It seems like the posters on the Mk1s have a no entry sign either side of some text. I must admit, it seems a strange formation.
