As seen on the "bins of guildford" facebook (don't ask).

Looks very different without the deflectors doesn't it?
How much to stick a set of Witte deflectors on...?:D
Or, for that matter, a set of french swept-back ones?
Glad to see she's on the mend...

Handsome loco without them, with them too of course, but would be nice to see her at a Gala or open day sometime without them.

Three questions asked there to which I'm guessing the answers might be.
    1. Yes, but a similar look to other locos when their deflectors are removed.
    2. No.
    3. No.

I imagine that the focus currently is a long way away from design modifications!!

The amount of time and effort Leaky’s have put into the overhaul should not be underestimated. They are now at the Lane, working all over Easter and will be there for some time yet. The chances of seeing it running without smoke deflectors I would think is zero, they were taken off to access the steam pipes and for the inside of them to be painted.

    Latest update:

Work Continues Onwards At Stewarts Lane!

The MNLPS team have continued to be busy and hard at work with our locomotive, as you can see here. Those who have been able to help out and assist have gone above and beyond with their efforts with getting Clan Line ready to return to the Mainline. We still have work to do but we as a team, as well as those in the industry who have supported us throughout this process, are getting there!

The nameplates are re-united with 35028!
One of the tick box exercises at the Lane this weekend was putting the nameplates back onto the locomotive. For the first time in just under 2 years, the engine once again has her nameplates.

she looked as spotless as ever - well done to the MNLPS!

Did you manage to coincide your glimpse of 35028 perchance with something like a trip to the shops or the pub? :)

Nice to see the 'V' for Victory headsignals - shades of 34051 on Sir Winston's funeral train.

Surprised no comments on how MNLPS have quietly and efficiently got Clan Line back into service once back at base and met 50th Anniversary tour. One light engine main line shake down, one loaded shake down and then a tour apparently run with little fuss and on time.

Without trying to appear smug, it’s just what we do. Having said that it could never have happened without the lads at Leaky Finders almost working almost around the clock to get it all done, the members who travelled down to Devon to do some of the hard graft and finishing the job after she got back to the Lane. INMHO MNLPS also has the best engineering team in the business.
The reward for me was being on the faultless loaded test run and photographing the equally faultless first passenger working to Bath.

Whilst I recognise and appreciate the massive effort all have gone to to put this great loco back on the mainline, with respect, you shouldn’t appear smug at all, the locos completion is later than first mooted when repairs commenced, and given the loco re entered service in June 2017 then had a year out during covid in 2020 the boiler barely managed 4 years service following an expensive major boiler overhaul!
It now appears half the firebox has been renewed after such a short period of operation following this overhaul. For a loco that does not see the intensive service that some mainline registered locos do, surely some serious questions were asked as to why this was and what was missed.

There were good reasons why, rather than just renew the syphons, a full overhaul was undertaken, this is not the place to discuss it but members were kept informed via the house magazine and a comprehensive report by the chief engineer at the AGM. I’m not sure what you mean about completion being later than first mooted, no dates were given but it was due to work its first train in 27th April and it worked its first train on 27th April.
