I guess people are terrified of travelling with VT at the moment in case they fall out of the train as they are still running without CDL (under an exemption).

I believe the VT stock already has CDL on. Its only WCR that doesn't have it and pushing for another exemption

Thanks for sharing the photo Michael.
They would make the perfect combination to take 12 over the Devon banks!

Can't say I've seen any photo evidence of that, and their Mk.2's are still on the exemption list...

On the YouTube clips linked on here of the recent Shap and Shakespeare trips I can see no CDL lights on the coaches.

VT are running without CDL at the moment but they have an exemption to allow them to do it. The fact people aren’t falling out of the train left right and centre does rather add weight to the argument that CDL is unnecessary.

Such a ridiculous comment. You seem to have no idea of how a risk assessment works.

Something is either dangerous or it isn’t. If not having CDL was such a risk, trains not so fitted wouldn’t be allowed to run. The fact exemptions are allowed implies running without CDL isn’t so dangerous.

VT having an exemption and running trains without CDL is no less dangerous to the passenger than WC running trains without CDL and no exemption.

It is no longer productive to discuss how necessary or not CDL may really be for safety. It is required, subject only to temporary exemptions for a few TOCs that have agreed timescales for installing it and are applying agreed alternative risk control measures in the meantime.

No, you definitely have no clue how a risk assessment works..

Unfortunately danger isn't black or white - it comes in every shade in between. A risk assessment attempts to reduce a level of risk, it does not eliminate it or prevent something from happening. Different mitigation measures will therefore be deemed more effective than others, but the ultimate goal is still CDL.

We are not privy to what terms and mitigation measures have been agreed with the ORR (over a limited timescale) - but VT are enjoying the benefits of having discussed and agreed these, unlike others.

Just received my e-ticket for the Plymouth trip. These are the advertised times:

Friday 10th May confirmed departure times:
    Birmingham Snow Hill at 08:30
    Widney Manor at 08:47
    Warwick Parkway at 09:25
    Banbury at 10:10
    Oxford at 10:48

Arrive Bristol Temple Meads at 13:46
Depart Bristol Temple Meads at 15:47

    Arrive Plymouth at 18:39

Saturday 11th May confirmed departure and arrival times:
    Depart Plymouth at 09:30

Arrive Bristol Temple Meads at 12:32
Depart Bristol Temple Meads at 15:30

    Arrive Paddington at 17:55
    Depart Paddington at 18:51

    Arrive Oxford at 22:05
    Arrive Banbury at 22:34
Arrive at Warwick Parkway at 23:05
Arrive at Widney Manor at 23:25

Rather a later arrival back at Oxford than I had expected, after a very slow journey from Paddington. I shall have to review my plans for getting back to Cardiff!

The train arrives 20 minutes after last service out of Snow Hill!! Was planning on leaving car at Stourbridge.. Think we may jump ship at Paddington - appears to lose 3 hours between there and Oxford..

I'm guessing once 7029 is dragged out of Paddington it needs to be turned for the journey back to Birmingham. Diesel to Greenford, 7029 to Hanwell loop, 47773 on the front and away?

Yes, I think I'll be bailing at Paddington for a service train too.

By the way, is anyone else finding the NatPres forum running extremely slowly these past few days?

Assuming the timings have not gone on realtime yet due to police advice? Expect crowds to be out for this one.
Waiting for the day no doubt.
