Over the course of the gala weekend, the ‘North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd’ launched the 4F CENTENARY APPEAL. This collaborative project with the Churnet Valley Railway will hopefully see no. 44422 return to traffic in time for its 100th Birthday in October 2027.

Details for donating are online, if you are able to help all donations no matter the amount will make a difference.

The first phase of work will focus on the wheels, where repairs were identified in 2018. As part of this we will lift the loco off its wheels and complete a full bottom end overhaul, making her as mechanically sound as we possibly can. Work won’t start though until the cash is available, we refuse to have a part stripped loco sat around the yard waiting for funding.

So if you want to help Return a Stoke Scot to the rails, please do support us where you can :)

I went on the CVR web site today, to look at the stock list. Do you have to throw a treble six with two dice to find it, or is it a state secret? :)

Drove her at the East Lancs, in lieu of one of Ian Rileys Black Fives, that went out of service.

The thing that i always remember, was the heat on the footplate, compared to so many other larger loco's we drove.

Best of luck with the overhaul, the dented buffer beam, was caused by my late father after a heavy shunt on the day!!!!

Do admit, I do miss seeing a 'Duck Six' sauntering round a heritage railway with a couple of coaches behind it (or a goods train). :)

Perhaps maybe after a couple of years running there, send it to GWSR for another 'Cheltenham & Gloucester Steam Days' event or to WSR for an 'S&D' event?

Even better, the MHR, they could do with a miracle. :)

Perhaps you would care to explain your slur on the MHR? I’m sure the hardworking volunteers and staff are really grateful for you putting them down.

I had that individual on 'Ignore', but succumbed to temptation to read his 'contribution'. I won't get too het up by a numpty making a poor mouth about us, especially as he is obviously has no style - a Hampshire man supporting that branch line to Bristol Temple Meads, for heaven's sake!

If I have offended anybody from the Watercress Line, I do apologise.

Just never been into Bulleid Pacifics.

Good job this thread isn’t about Bulleids then.

If we can keep the focus on 44422 it will be appreciative. A good start has been made with the appeal, over £13k now sits in the kitty. If we can generate some more funds then work may start sooner than we had planned.

Best of luck with the appeal and overhaul. Although 44422 was quite tired when last running on the WSR, I always thoroughly enjoyed firing her. The boiler should be in good nick, but the bottom end probably needs a fair bit of work. A very capable machine that I look forward to seeing run again.
