WCR 2024 Railtours

Methinks @RalphW doth protest too much. No class of loco is immune from having its valves set not quite right. Plenty of videos on here, of various classes of loco, demonstrate uneven exhausts. On the other hand some are very regular. I don't recall Clan Line ever sounding off beat.

However I do agree that a Bulleid, how ever regular or irregular its exhaust, doesn't sound much like one of Stanier's.

 

Also used on VE Day, and Winston’s Churchills funeral train. So not just for breakdowns.

 

I only observed that Bulleids and Staniers sound different. I said nothing praising or blaming either.

Tangmere sporting the "V" headcode - I rather like it.


Much has changed in 80 years. Tangmere and the coach had not been built, the station would have been in LMS ownership, the loco shed occupied the area behind and to the left of the loco and the only "Spam Can" you were likely to see would have been in an American serviceman's rations.


Tangmere might not always be sounding her best at the moment but yesterday she was gleaming, note the reflections of her admirers in the tender paintwork.

 

Despite sounding out of sorts, Tangmere seemed to do pretty well at Blea Moor and Ais Gill. Some shoving at the former but much less so on the return trip.

 

And in the South of England!!

 

I seem to recall her sounding OK when she took the The Medway Valley Pullman on 26-11-2022, which wasn't so very long ago. Has she worked any trips in the south since then?

Certainly didn’t sound well in this video.

 

I wouldn't fancy having to change one of those tender springs, lightweight they are not.

 

Any word on what is hauling tomorrow's Dalesman? Anything other than Tangmere?
