    Path activated at 14:15.
Loco was being coaled before lunch and in steam under the coal stage when I came past about 14:30

    EDIT
I have just noticed this path clashes with a Q path for what I think is D6515 returning. They would meet somewhere between Furzebrook and Coombe Bottom. So if the latter is happening then one will need to be retimed.

It has just taken 20 minutes to couple the engine and support coach to the ecs but the stock has now eased forward. If the weather clears I will attempt a shot in the Soton area. I suspect it may leave Brockenhurst right after the XC. I am looking at 2nd open 4973. Been over Shap a few times in that with steam on the front no more alas

I happened to be walking back from the surgery having replaced my wife's missing prescription request.
It seems that with the curve out of the bay platform the support coach and the front coach of the set were at different angles, hence the difficulty I think.

Passed St Denys 4 early with enough light for a decent shot

I decided that just watching instead of rushing to a station would be a good thing to do when combined with a walk.

The Itchen valley is now one long thicket along the railway and parallel Itchen Navigation, but that does have the advantage of dampening out much of the noise from the M3. As I hadn't walked along the Navigation footpath for a few months I was astounded how much it was overgrown. I did hear 35018 working her light train northwards. The exhaust and rumble of mark 1 coaches was soon absorbed into the countryside, just leaving the evening chorus of songbirds and the distant chattering of Jackdaws. Eventually I could hear the rumble of another train. Unfortunately for the senses just a class 66 hauled container train, not an S15 on 60 banana vans.....

    Cheers, Neil

I popped over to Kenton to see 35018 heading north. I didn't manage a picture, for silly reasons, but if I had it would have shown her with diesel pilot. Anyone thinking of photting further north may choose not to bother.

I went out for it but only three miles from home. It makes sense as the regulator will only need to be cracked for lubrication saving them a considerable amount of coal. Needless to say I didn’t take a picture

Likewise - I popped down to Lichfield but didn't bother to video when I saw the 47 on the front. But I did manage to find a reasonable spot for the future, so it was not a waste of time.

BIL en route to Southall yesterday evening. I thought it may leave Swanage early, due to the conflicting inbound movement off the mainline, DSC_0703r.jpg DSC_0711r.jpg and chatting to the signaller at Norden Gates it was already on the way up to Corfe.
Of course it decided to rain, the only time all day, and by the time I had set up the camcorder and grabbed an umbrella the train appeared. Hence the shot from the car park by the viaduct. Then a mad dash out to Holme Lane got me there before the loco (helped of course by the two bridge TSR's)

Did they change engines? It was a 33 on the front when it passed me.

Given how little the WCR 33s venture out these days, arguably 33207 on the front was a more exotic sight than 35018.
