By comparison, this is a screenshot from Google Maps of the same cutting as in my video at Merstham, from a fairly recent date after a cutting vegetation clearance! Screenshot 2024-05-31 at 13.41.38.png

It is with a 6,000 gallon tender. It’s about 4500 gallons to Dover. Using a fast pump, top and bottom watering it doesn’t take long.

Dover Priory is not a 10 minute stop. The British Pullman is booked at Dover from 13.20 to 13.40.

I presume you mean BIL? FYI the capacity of Clan Line is 5700 because of the location of the air brake system.

I’ve always been quoted 6,000 for Clan Line, the tender coal bunker was modified when the air pump was fitted. I’ll ask next time I’m at the Lane. The water gauge is not very informative as it just shows full at the top.

I was nearly caught out when thinking of seeing the run today as I assumed it was returning via Redhill as 'usual'! Have I missed why it returned via Sevenoaks?

The Redhill route was only going to be temporary. Always check on RTT

Ah, right - I did check RTT today and so avoided embarrassment! Shame; I had hoped that Redhill was the new normal route - glad I caught it the last two times then. Many thanks.

My photos of Clan Line on a very dull day in Kent.

The first one was taken specifically to get the Kent Oast House in shot -ie while the diners ate their luxury meal washed down with the finest of champagnes and wines I tried to add a flavour of Kent to my photo - having just had my meal which was a packet of Walkers ready salted crisps washed down with a bottle of Tesco's spring water.

Using my Nikon 28-300mm lens at 28 mm I had just one location on the footbridge, almost to the inch, that could get the oast house top and the whole train in.

The second photo was from the bridge overlooking what was once a track down to the lineside - left hand side that is now trees and posh houses - where Dad and Mum used to take their growing family in the 1950s to watch trains - including the all-pullman Golden Arrow. It's what started it all for big brother Don and myself.

I have now photted nine working Bulleid pacifics since last Saturday. Yeehaa!!
