Do you mean it isn't right? If so, then who knows? They are just nice shots of a loco drifting along with the regulator cracked.

Seen here passing Haxby, wasn't exactly working hard ...
By my calculations only 4 1/2 coaches available for passengers, hard to see how this could make a profit? I changed the number as seeing the return, the mark one now at the front is empty.
It seems a shame, this is a pale shadow of the SSE seasons of old. Phoenix Images-8592.jpg

A day for show ponies but at least the trip ran and people got their day out in Scarborough.

Reminds me of the mixed SRPS stock from the early 90s.

Towards the end of steam, 1967/8, I seem to remember that it was often more common to see a train of mixed maroon & blue than it was to see a train of one colour on the less prestigious services.

92160 on the North West Tour at Stockport, 20 April 1968. Note the two police officers next to the track on the left being alert for trespassers. :)

I suppose scale of costs comes in to it. They won’t have used much coal/water/diesel with a lighter load, less exams to carry out with less stock, a full train (Well as full as it can be) looks better/has better atmosphere and so on. Probably worth running in the grand scheme of things.

You could have given me a wave! :(

We spent the day chasing it around in my mate's dad's car. 73134/069 at Hebden Bridge, 48773 at Bury and again near Droylsden and 92160 at Stockport. The first, and to this day the only time, I've been to any of those places.

Plus a lot of people at Fenton came to enjoy the captures, sight, sounds and smell of old smokey.

The train however was full with a few pay on the day filling the last few seats and everybody enjoyed their day out and no one on board complained about the diesel.
The Carnforth passengers also approved of the early arrival back.

Where did Tangmere get attached and detached? or was it on the front from Carnforth?

It was on the front throughout, turned on the turntable at Scarborough as usual.

Good to see it was full. That’s what matters most. Diesel is a by the by and has to be expected. I don’t think 90% would be bothered on any trip tbh.

I definitely think it’s got to be handed to WCR for trying to keep as much running as possible with what is extremely limited resources.

As a side note related to comments on here and elsewhere….There weren’t too many who complained at this sort of thing happening in the earlier days of mainline steam…Have we just become too used to having it so good, that a bit of a lash up like yesterday seems so bad? o_O

Were the Mark 1's included just to provide toilet facilities?

I think the Riviera carriages are CET compliant. The buffet and other Mk1 are classed as staff coaches.

The kitchen was at the end of the set and not between the two dining 1st class as usual, so yes the 2 mk1s were non passenger, the rest of the stock was CET compliant. As regards comments of just drifting along and regulator just cracked, how was it possible from the clips to acertain the real reason for this or are assumptions being made as usual?
