So, who was driving 532 that day? No names, of course, but who did he work for?

Modern car speedometers are much more accurate than that though - both my Toyota and my BMW are accurate to within 2mph according to my GPS. There has been talk of reducing or even removing the "10%+2" allowance.

Some British taxpayers are also customers of the LSL family of railtour operators and contribute their fares. Other than that, I for one don't see how the British taxpayers contribute to the Hosking/LSL operations. Please explain.

Gift Aid can be beneficial to the donor, as well as the charity, if you have a higher income.

If you pay the higher-rate tax at 40% or additional-rate at 45% and have made Gift Aid declarations when giving to charity, you can claim back the difference between the basic-tax rate and the rate you pay. So, higher-rate taxpayers could reclaim an extra 20%, and additional-rate taxpayers an extra 25%.

For example, if you donate £100 to charity and make a Gift Aid declaration. The charity gets your £100 plus £25 Gift Aid. A higher-rate taxpayer can then reclaim 20% of £125, which is £25. Or £31.20 if you are an additional-rate taxpayer reclaiming 25%.

That’s assuming JH was referring to taxpayers with regard to Gift Aid in the first place!

I shouldn't worry too much, @osprey ... but I have known mobile cameras be set at bang on the limit in certain circumstances. A friend of mine is a former rapid response driver with the Met: I'll ask her what she knows. (For the record, on more than one occasion she's told me if she was still serving she'd nick me for 'failing to make good progress' - these days I tend to drive to arrive.)

However, to get back on track - excuse the quality, it's a frame from a video but here's my little memento of the day and indeed, the first time I've seen 60532 in the metal.

It seems hard to think that 45 years ago, this location was a heavily-industrialised area making bricks: none of the greenery was there. At all.

One thing, reading through this thread that's somewhat surprised me, is how many of us were only seeing the loco for the first time yesterday.

Speaking for myself, I had only turned 11 the last time the loco steamed and I turn 33 in September. My one visit to the NYMR it wasn't there in the Autumn of 1998, although 62005 was, so I've seen all 3 Peppercorn designs in preservation now. My Grandad on the other hand did a railtour over the S&C with the loco the same year I believe.

Was the 3rd time I’ve seen it for myself, 2nd time in steam. I owe my interest in railways to BP. My parents took me for my first ever steam train ride aged 2 when the loco was at the NYMR. So my first haulage was BP. And really I’ve never looked back in either hobby or career. Was lovely seeing it last night. Can’t wait to book a trip behind it, and really hoping we can get it to the SVR, as it would be a dream to fire it.

I'd only seen her on two previous occasions myself, the first at the GWS, Didcot on May 26th 1985 (I remember there being a cracking thunderstorm!), the second occasion was on June 2nd 2001 at Keynsham, when she worked a special from Walsall to Temple Meads and return...

My first loco is a similar story, but with 60532's fellow BR Express Blue and Crewe stablemate in 60007, around the same age as you, but at the GCR.

I too, will be keeping an eye out for tours to book on, featuring 60532.

Likewise. I also saw it pass through Keynsham on that date.

My goodness, that was 23 years ago :( [BJ]

The last picture I can locate of 60532 before the current resurrection was at Gobowen on 14th April 2001.

Anyway today, returning from York to Crewe with the ecs crossing over Dutton Viaduct, unfortunately the boat in the shot isn't the one I really wanted - the preserved MSC tug Daniel Adamson had passed only a few minutes before  -- one day -- one day !!!

If you saw the LSL/SRPS announcement last month then that is exactly their intention. Blue Peter is the correct loco for Aberdeen given its history and I've always thought that was the intention of LSL. Now they have a foothold in Scotland with the SRPS partnership and they will likely run their own serious of Aberdonian trains.

Saw it at an East Lancs Gala and the NYMR close to the end of its last operational spell, I think it was pretty well worn by then but was still putting in some memorable performances.

My first sighting of it was at Waterloo in 1966 when it was still in service. Maybe that’s why I can’t get excited about it now in its historically incorrect livery although I can understand that the current owner doesn’t want it to confused with Tornado.

What a load of rubbish. With regards to BR contributing to the repairs to 60532 after its infamous slip; they did. After all, it was the fault of the BR driver and, if someone’s employee made a mistake whilst working on your car, wouldn’t you expect them to pay for the repairs? Go back and read all about it on this thread.
