The L&H Rly are holding a Mixed Traffic weekend on 16 and 17 May 2009.

Locos due to be in traffic will include 20214,27024 and 42073.

I will attempt to establish the running order and post here. Should be a mix of steam/steam, diesel/steam and diesel/diesel or any combination thereof, depending on loco availability.

Rover tickets are available; normal timetable applies and further details are available on the company's website.

Very tempting, just wish it wasn't so dear, £20 for 3 miles and 3 locos .......a good weather forecast for the weekend might swing it [-o<

A 20 quid rover ticket for this particular event on a short line seems a bit steep compared to what SVR and the Grange Gala for example offered lately.

It is on the steep side, although I think it is the same price as last year's diesel gala. It's reasonable value if you ride all of every trip. Is it possible to buy a single return ticket for one trip and if so what is the price of those please?

It's more expensive than the diesel galas. Have a look at http://www.lakesiderailway.co.uk/special-events.php and notice there's two prices for the diesel galas, £14 and £16! Either way, £20 is a lot of money for three locos, especially when other lines put out more than that on normal operating days.

£20, maybe a little dear but still not bad when you consider we still have a bit of the olf Furness active and it is for a good cause of course, for me though I`d like to see the other Fairburn back, when it is due to return?

On only 3 1/2 miles of track at 10mph if you're lucky? I know people like to bash locos intensively in a day but even that may be a bit monotonous, however attractive the surroundings are, and indeed they are up there. I can't help but think this is a deliberate out-pricing ploy to show how un-important the enthusiast market is to L&HR and kick such events into touch in future, coupled with the push of that fantastic piece of kit FR 20 and its society from the line.

A single round trip is about £5 or £6, I've often bought a couple of these at previous galas, and then picked which trains I wanted to travel on.

Well, I had a trip from Lakeside - Haverthwaite. First time I've travelled on the branch since BR closed it( I was VERY young back then). Pretty route - but I was robbed of £6.30 for a tea and piece of cake, which spoiled the experience a little for me.

Was that at Haverthwaite ? If so I am surprised as we don't visit the railway itself much but will call into the station cafe if in the area as we quite enjoy having something to eat/drink there.

Yes it was. I'm certain I was overcharged (hence the robbed comment) but they didnt give me a receipt, just the £3.70 change from a tenner! I hope it goes in the railways coffers and not a tenant!

Sounds like they thought you'd given them a Fiver not a Tenner

Think it costs about £4 also to park your car on the car park at Lakeside also so bear that in mind if you travel from that end.
Also the timetables run to the boat schedule so could be vastly improved if they didnt wait for them. I also that the impression that they only run to rip off the tourist market.

Oh dear - I didn't mean to start a 'knock L & HR ' thread ! Parking @ Lakeside cost me £3 - but that was for up to 9 hours, which is good value I feel. An adult return for the line was just over £5 - not excessive by any means. Yes, they have a captive audience from the lake 'steamers' which they always seem to do well from. I thought it odd that there didn't appear to be any visible platform staff anywhere - especially on an advertised 'Gala.' Similarly, there didn't seem to be many enthusiasts about. It was nice to ride behind a Fairburn though!!

Just by way of thanks to all of those who supported our mixed traffic gala this weekend. It was a pleasure to meet those of you who stopped to talk and to take note of your comments, good and bad.

We are well aware of the normal nature of our business, but this event allows us to run our otherwise dormant diesel fleet and it would be a shame not to continue with the occasion if there are some of you who wish to ride behind our locos. It is also quite a pleasant change for us as well.

Once again, thank you for your interest.

    Airspeed

PS. 60017, you are clearly upset. Send me a PM and I will refund your monies from my own pocket. That way you can then reflect on the other aspects of your day.

Would the line consider recommendations about how to run it's diesel galas to get more passengers at these events?
