Not a big fan of S160's but at least its painted up well in maroon, even if fictitious. Given the number of Bullied pacifics knocking about I was predicting one of them might appear in the line up. Fingers crossed for no incongruous double headers! Look forward to the event, go book hotel now, tickets if available yet.

Does 2253 see much use at Paignton? Wouldn't be surprised if the visit is extended

Hope there is something else planned. That’s pretty poor from previous gala’s but just my opinion.

I believe there is at least one more planned, but you can never be sure these days

Though I do see your point in comparison to some past line-ups, for me personally those two visitors and the prospect of them up the NYMR gradients (as I never made it to the CVR for 4079 in the end) has changed my thinking from 'probably can't afford to get to the NYMR either time or money wise this year' (it's a 6-hour each way drive from the south west for me) to 'I'd really, really love to do that gala' - maybe the Sunday and staying on for the Monday of normal services too.

I could be looking too far into this - however, the gala t-shirt now advertised has 4 "TBC" spots followed by the home fleet locos - so that could indicate another two guests to be announced?

No, it first arrived at the NYMR from Poland overhauled, although it had a lot of additional work done on it, it was then most recently overhauled at Northern Steam and run in at the NYMR before moving to Paignton.

Didn't I read somewhere the owner is a big noise on the NYMR, if so adds weight to your suggestion.

He owns 44806 & 31466 which are already based on the line - so would then keep all his locos together?

Do I think rightly that 76079 is also in the fold?

I think I read once that it was on a 10 year hire agreement with Paignton, but over the last 5 years Paignton have built a larger home fleet. Seems strange to be hiring 2253 when 75014, 5239 etc are being hired out

75014 was in service on the TDR a couple of weeks ago, along with the Manor.
No sign of 2253 but, admittedly, I was only watching from the quayside at Dartmouth.;)

    So I believe.
AIUI, the plan is to convert 2253 to oil firing at its next overhaul so it would be a partner to WD 3672. It has the advantage that drawings for this conversion already exist.
2253, 31466, 44806 & 76079; the NYMR owe an awful lot to Peter Best.

It's first operational stint was on the NYMR in the 90's, as I remember it running on my only visits in 1998 (we were staying in Pickering and my Grandad would take me to the station each evening and it's whistle used to keep making me jump).

I think 2253 had a short stint on display at Locomotion in Shildon, before returning to Grosmont for overhaul and returned to steam at one of the NYMR galas (2019 was it?), before heading to Paignton.

Didn’t he also own 75029 at some point and also was behind the 45212 agreement when it operated on the NYMR?

You’re definitely correct with regard to 45212 and may well be so with 75029 but I can’t remember the exact arrangement under which it came to the NYMR. Peter also provided a traverser for the ill fated Bellwood project and a wheel lathe which was never used. As I said, the NYMR owes him a lot. The railway would never have survived without the likes of him, Jos de Crau (80135 & coaches) and Clifford Brown (3672 & 30926).
