I’m with you on this one! I head for Didcot in particular because it has a very clear and (in my experience) very reliable loco roster on the website. Other railways are much nearer to me but don’t prioritise publishing this info. The Isle of Wight line is also very reliable, their August plans are online already. So that’s where my money goes!

Re painting the coach. My first reaction was '.....words fail me'

But, it's not my coach, it's not my time and money that has kept it in existence, so, whoever owns it and has spent time and money on it, can have whatever they want done to it.

Maybe the lack of a loco roster at KESR that has kept me down to two visits in the last 14 years is not such a bad thing.

I understand that the 'doodle' was done on a special film which protected the paintwork.

It looked pretty obvious to me that it was a film/vinyl covering of sorts.

Hopefully they have been applied correctly! You may remember the "Cadburys" vinyls applied to 80151 and a carriage at the Bluebell last winter: removing them required fairly substantial repairs to the paint work. Fortunately in that case the cost of the repair work was covered by the advertising company, but it was still a disruption.

Three Mk1s based at Bounds Green many years ago got painted for a filming contract, supposedly with a washable paint that should've come off when the vehicles went through the carriage wash. It didn't! As far as I remember a repaint wasn't required, but it took a team of cleaners a considerable amount of time to get it all off.

I remember a film job at Quainton Rd, many years ago, the film company promised that they would use paint which washed off easily.

Of course the LNWR diner needed a full repaint afterwards.

Never believe what the film company tell you.

I have worked on a few film sets, the film companies don't give a monkey about damage.

If anyone ever needs to do film work, make absolutely sure there is a water-tight requirement in the contract to return everything in as-good condition and repair/compensate for damages.

One particular production I worked on, I spoke to the rep for a vehicle hire company who basically said,

"We send all our scruffiest vehicles, and have big damage deposits because we expect vehicles to come back in an state."

He was absolutely right to do so, some of the vehicles ended up in a right state, including more than one rolled on its side, sumps smashed, panel damage, wrong fuel put in.......

The same happened on the GC 8F, washable paint was used to cover the red livery for a photo charter, the cleaning process damaged the paint. It did have a benefit as the repaint got rid of that awful unauthentic red

I remember that. It was to advertise the brand of wallpaper paste. Seems to have been even more effective than expected!
    Was it Solvite?

Being born after the end of steam on BR, glad to say I am (for the most part) not affected by historical inaccuracy.

"Solvite sticks". It certainly did, and love that wallpaper pattern! All that's missing is an avocado bathroom suite, or a brown corduroy sofa in front of the smokebox:Wtf:

The red looked fantastic. Seeing as apparently nobody can be bothered to paint an 8F into LMS livery, it was nice to have a change from boring BR unlined black.

8274 ran in LMS livery at the GWSR and then GCRN between 2010 and 2017...
