I must agree she looks stunning, a trip to York is on the cards shortly and a few bob towards the steaming fund. Well done to all involved =D> =D> =D>

Too right!!! I remember when NRM moved a pile of stuff to Swindon temporarily in 1989 (or was it 1990) and I was given the job of organising the BTP escort. We were cooped up in a freight brakevan in the middle of the train on the 1st week, with about 3 or 4 loco's and 3 or 4 coaches/vans, running with a 47 as a class 9 @ 25mph. After we left Bescot yard the train ran away down a bank somewhere south of Brum (no idea of the name but it wasn't Lickey) and the 47 was powerless to stop it ! I've never seen so many sparks flying from a diesel loco bogie ! I spoke to the driver when we eventually stopped and he said we'd hit 55mph. The following week, they attached a 37 (I think) @ Bescot to improve the braking function. Happy days :)

Don't give 'em ideas - they're about daft enough to do it!

Saw the loco this morning at Bordesley Junction & was very impressed with its appearance.
Congratulations on the workmanship must go to craftsmen at Tyseley Loco Works.

I was secretly hoping that 6229 might have somehow made it into York unphotographed (never really much chance of that), so that it could have a grand unveilling at York.

However, I'm very happy to see the photos posted and am looking forward to seeing her alongside 4468 when I visit in July.

Great to see someone had their video camera out to catch this event. Looking at the video of her be towed there seems no issue with bridge clearance at this point in time . Let's hope when she does regain a main line ticket there isn’t an issue with clearance on the network?

I was somewhat sceptical of this project but now realise having seen these images, that my mind was being influenced by the aesthetic of many ancient B&W photo's, and stylised paintings and posters. With Modern Photography she looks rather magnificent and well worthy of a place at the NRM =D>

I predict a campaign to get her in steam as others have said.

Looks to me like a very convincing shade of maroon - certainly more as I imagined the shade should be when compared to 6233 and 6100 each of which look more red.

I doubt any of you may have heard it but at 4:30 this morning Radio 5 'Up all night' had a 25 minutes programme discussing this Loco and the influence of Streamlining in that era and how this will be put into context at the NRM. It was actually quite interesting including some comparisons with Mallard and vintage radio clips etc. Anyway its on the BBC iPlayer if you want to hear it. The section about the Loco and streamlining starts at 3 hours 36 minutes into the programme, so that you don't have to listen to the full 4 hours. Direct Link below

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... 0_05_2009/

Are there any TV programmes scheduled about the Loco ?

Many thanks for all your kind comments and I will pass them on to the guys at TYS who did all the hard work in putting out such a fantastic looking machine. Some of the guys worked 'till bl**dy hell o'clock on Sunday night to put the finishing touches. =D> =D>
When we got to York we passed down the platform to the sound of applause from the passengers waiting to join the A1 tour.
And now I can proudly boast that I have travelled behind a streamlined Duchess on the mainline. \:D/ \:D/
Now let's have her back in steam. [-o< [-o<

Without sounding too much like a rivet counter, Is there a lamp iron and Grab handles missing on the front of the casing just above the "V" ? It looks rather bare to me. If you look at some of the old photographs (this one for example http://www.nrm.org.uk/collections/loco/ ... hoto10.asp ) you can clearly see what I mean. The lamp iron in the 12.oclock position and the grab handles either side of it can be clearly be seen, however these seem to be missing on "6229". Would there be any reason for this?

And before anyone and goes off on one, this is not critism of the work done by Tsy, Just a simple observation and question.

Well done to all involved. =D> She looks stunning and I hope that the NRM decide to let her out on the ML in the future under her own power.

Not too bad for a red engine.

Seriously though, nice job - personally I think it was long overdue. Was in York only the other week, but looks like I'll have to make another trip before I go down south for the summer.
