6100 Coast to Coast railtour

Just found this new tour added to the Railway Touring Co website, hopefully with 6100 Royal Scot, or if not available 6201 Liverpool to Scarborough & return 4th July

Wouldnt hold your breath, She still needs completely wiring up for TPWS, AWS and OTMR, all the airbrakes to fettle and test, all the VAB tests completeing and the small matter of a support coach.

This all of course depends on how she performs at this weekends gala.

 

So a lot of work, but not impossible in 3 months, depending on what else Crewe is working on and, as you say, what is found during running-in. We'll know better when she gets back from the Whizzer. The support coach is probably the least problem - they can be borrowed or hired if necessary.

 

If 6100 is fitted with TPWS, AWS and OTMR and was able to make the date of the tour, only thing I can say is Bu**er. #-o as I fly out to the Isle of Man on 4th July.

 

Makes me chuckle. RTC announces a tour for a loco that hasn't even been certified for main line running yet can't tell us what's working their Sunday CME tours in August. :-k

 

Well 6201 is backup?

 

The Liverpool area edition of the 'Metro' for 20th.May, has an advert for this tour advising;
'The Coast to Coast Express will steam out of Liverpool hauled by 6201 Princess Elizabeth the ''steam speed record-holder''

So presumably RTC have given up on 6100 being ready in time. Now, about this 'steam speed record holder', all these years I thought it was held by 4468!!

 

Yeah I saw that, and been trying to work out what record ? #-o

 

Record for breaking crockery approaching Crewe after the "high speed run", and being unable to slow in time spring to mind.

RTC make you laugh, surely you cannot advertise something thats not even working mainline yet.

However, they do have previous i suppose.

thought she set a record for working non-stop from london to glasgow maintaning high average speed over notorious gradients which for me is more impressive than doing 120 odd somewhere on the east coast.

 

RYTC are fairly unreliable. I remeber last September they announced 7 tours with 850 Lord Nelson and only 3 happened and none with 850. One was with 60019, the other 2 were postponed to february and with 34067.

Not hugely reliable!

 

To be fair to RTC, they have said all along that 6100 may not be ready in time for this tour, in which case 6201 will do the honours. Looks like they have learned from the previous occassions when "new" locos have failed to appear.

 

Just got my tickets and not too happy. Despite stating on the website approx 0750 departure from Liverpool, the timings with the tickets state 0639. Living in Southport I was going to come by train, but now having to rethink as its too early for even me to get there by train.

 

Whilst RYTC will argue they're in the hands of Network Rail and the initial advert always comes with a warning re times, this won't be the first time they've run tours from Liverpool that have ended up leaving at the crack of dawn. Surely by now they should be able to get a more realistic estimate from NR at the outset!!

 

Whilst I realise the times were only approx, 70mins out wasn't what I was expecting!

Sorry only just saw this. There are more to records than top speed. 6201 ran non stop Euston Glasgow in 5hrs 53mins in 1936 and the following day averaged 70mph on the return to Euston, This record stood untill 1964 when it was broken by electric traction. Quite an achievement to say the very least.
