In addition to that massive credit must go to West Coast for having the foresight to provide two drivers with route knowledge for the possible diversionary routes as well!

Very good recovery up to now obviously we still haven't got there let alone back yet....

The first stop for water is at Challow. The timings at the loop do not give a time for where the train actually stops for water, giving the impression that the train only stops for 2 minutes. <BJ>

It was allowed 50 minutes for water so slick work gained the time (especially as the diversion has added about 25 miles to the journey (admittedly some of that was done by 47812)

Certainly was a rapid climb up Sapperton on the return journey. Mixed bag behind the camera with the rerouting, weather and all that, but still my efforts from today, captured at Addlestone, Cholsey, Ashchurch, Sapperton, Bourton and Earley:

I know that there are financial and operational reasons why trains need to be formed currently as they are but it was good to see that once again, we had an 8P with a total load that was manageable. Ten plus a diesel looks to have worked well and, of course, the diversion wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Well done to WCRC and the RTC for making a decent day of it for everyone.

Whether the upcoming Exeter trip in September becomes another example remains to be seen. Let's hope so.

    Good video, thanks for posting.

Train looks impressive but what a pity the folk on it were trapped in those closed air-con fitted carriages.

Oh for heavens sake people are not "trapped" in air-con coaches, most don't care and if there some enthusiasts aboard they know what the score is but still travel.

Not to mention the fixed arm rests that only work for agile people (of any age).

My offering from yesterday, featuring the run up to Sapperton Tunnel in both directions, in Hailey Wood and at Frampton Mansell, respectively. I hope you enjoy it :)

Yes you won’t get me in another main line steam hauled train while the current stock position remains and if that means I have had my last main line steam trip then so be it
