Meanwhile. . .

Our resident class 73 locomotive (73129) has rejoined the serviceable fleet after winter maintenance. ( http://www.heritage-railways.com/locosdb/locosdb2.php?RefNo=3388 )
The work has seen the engine silencer replaced, the pocket roof section it fits in repaired, a deep clean of the engine room which included lifting the floor plates, two windows replaced, refurbishment of the TDR2 relay, general contactor cleaning and a range of smaller jobs.

There have also been some recent rolling stock changes:

Pacer 142 set 142055 (consisting of Class 142 'Pacer' DMSL 55751 and Class 142 'Pacer' DMS 55705) moved from Foxfield to the Cambrian Heritage Railways, Llynclys site on 7/5/2024.
The set is owned by ‘The 142055 Group’ who have a website at https://www.the142055group.org/

The same lorries that brought the Pacers were also used to transfer a couple of the CHR 101 DMU cars from Llynclys to Oswestry

At end of April, BR Mk1 BSK 35334 which recently completed restoration was transferred to Oswestry to join operational fleet. ( http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1906 )

 

I see the last photo of 51205 in the carriage survey link was taken in August this year!

Time flies as you get older

 

And even more short notice... The Red Arrows are due to pass over the line tomorrow just north of Weston Wharf at around 15.23 heading west.

A good weekend at Oswestry with Austin 1 brought a big increase in visitors to see our first steam haulage in 2024. I was 2nd man on the class 73 diesel on Sunday, but looking forward to my turn firing Austin 1 one day soon.

Yes. Had several turns on Austin this year. It's a little easier than the Grant Ritchie we had last year as the GR was a bit small for our needs. Austin being a bit larger has a bit in reserve.
PS. Your link is a nice video, but I wasn't there that day (Sat). Was Fireman the next day (and most Sundays in Aug) though.

 

Picked the wrong post to reply to... Old age/stress/stupidity, could be any one of those!
A bigger boiler gives you a bit of margin to play with.

 

At last. . . the scaffolding is down (after about 4 years!) and the renovated Oswestry Station building is revealed. A new roof and repaired stonework.

 

The station is not the only thing that's been repainted over this winter. . .

A few finishing touches still to be done (such as refitting the name plates).

 

Just needs a canopy, a footbridge and a platform to get to now
