It should certainly offer its services gratis to the NVR, having mucked them about so much.

I had assumed that the re commissioning would not include working normal service trains.

It's quite possible (but pure speculation) that the loco is being used on service trains for free in lieu of the loco owners paying the GC a facilities fee.

More than one way to skin a cat with things like this….

GC might have said it’s £xxxx to test your loco here. A1 Group might have then said it’s £xxxx for any public/passenger worked steamings and amazingly the figures have met.

Or GC may have done some work for the overhaul at £xxxx cost. But they then may have turned round and said instead of cash we will take a number of stemaings valued at £xxxx. Again the figures meet.

Several other options as well. It’s most of these ways deals for railways gala visitors are done

I'm finding all this implicit and explicit speculation on agreements and contracts none of us have seen or been involved in to be somewhat amusing, if utterly pointless.

Certainly feels like a kick in the knackers for NVR - potentially impacts footfall now they will no longer be the first preserved railway to have Tornado hauling trains post overhaul...after sticking with the A1SLT despite all the postponements

I live in hope they'll simply not use the A1SLT again. It'll definitely bugger up the footfall.

I for one am very glad she is back hauling trains and people can enjoy travelling behind the loco again. I have to admit I'm starting to find the negative comments on this thread a bit grating to be honest. The loco is now back in steam, lessons do need to be learnt - but for goodness sake, let's be grateful we have a working A1 again.

that assumes they were going to be the first . As the loco is being tested on the GCR you would expect the GCR to enjoy the first public operation as a thank you for use in testing and running in.

you could logically assume that the GCR were a bit miffed that having hosted the engine it was to leave for the nene valley to run there

assuming otherwise is not the gcr’s or A1St fault

We'll never know will we Martin? Let's just say the NVR Wagon Group gave up on Tornado on the second postponement - and are very glad we did. Hope the GCR does well out of it - someone needs to. It's not how I run my companies though....clients remember when you go the extra mile to make things right, or not.

Quite. I'd have long been out of business if my reputation didn't precede me.

That of course is the salesman's view.
From my Procurement perspective I expect all my suppliers who got a lot of work from me to go the extra mile, despite that many did not due to the small supplier base increasing their dominant position.
Smaller suppliers (without debating where Tornado sits) it was more of a hope than an expectation.
Would the NVR benefit from a Tornado visit? I am sure they would, is the benefit the same in the opposite direction I am not so sure.

I would point out I have no involvement in the loco or any particular affinity towards it.

I've written several replies to this, and then deleted them. All I will say is that my perspective is from the trenches when projects have gone wrong, and then making it right regardless of whose fault it might be. Integrity is a big deal for me. I am most definitely not a salesman!

Same here - if something doesn't work, I fix it. If I cock up, firstly I admit it, then apologise, then put it right with no fuss and more importantly, no charge.

In my game, reputation is everything.

100%, exactly where we are at.
