The refurbished boiler for 2884 Class no 3850 has now arrived at Toddington. Hopefully we'll see this loco working alongside 2807 in 2024!

After some light engine tests during the last couple of weeks and a loaded test run over the weekend, 3850 is now rostered for almost all operating days in September www.gwsr.com/facilities/locomotive-roster This overhaul's been a huge effort by the team, way beyond what they thought they were getting into when they first started, and it now looks absolutely superb. Well worth a visit to come and see :)

Lovely photo! 2807 will be appearing in the same GWR wartime black towards the end of this year when it's off to Devon for Polar Express duties. It's own tender is progressing after what has been quite an extensive frames rebuild. The tender tank isn't too bad after 10 years' service. When 3850 undertook a loaded test run on 31 August, 2807 was the back-up loco. Doubtless not needed! (photo via a 2807 team colleague).

Will 2807 still be green for the gala in late October?

I believe so. It's not due to leave for polar express duties until nearer the end of this year.

Latest news from the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway. <BJ>

''We are delighted to announce that 3850 has passed all of its tests and will be working passenger trains under its own power for the first time today, on our railway.
The locomotive will be rostered throughout September, so we hope you are able to come along and see this magnificent engine''.

Another fantastic achievement in the world of preservation of our wonderful steam heritage - well done.

A reminder that 3850's overhaul & return has involved to the best of my understanding, new cylinders and smokebox saddle, swap of wheel sets from under restoration - 2874 to match 2874 and 3850 with the original design of wheels and a new first-time restoration of boiler from otherwise unrestored 3845. Barry kit-bashing at it's best! :)
