"The train was withdrawn from service in 1963 and scrapped" - go figure ](*,) Maybe it's just me, but if we can forgive elements of railway jargon being misused to some extent... 'Scrapped' has a pretty definite meaning in any sense, the fact that it exists is quite a suggestion that it wasn't scrapped!

Also quite ironic to hear a GWSR footplateman talking about working a loco hard \:D/

Perhaps the fireman forgot to turn they key! Especially as he was standing on the Right Hand Side - everyone knows the key is on the Left Hand Side on a GWR engine!

Just flick the camera the black n white in settings and all is well, unless you zoom in on the tender emblem you can't tell it's not green then.

Excellent coverage - well done to the G&WR. Also very balanced for a national paper and more so as it is the mail.

Have to agree with the earlier comment about hard working engines at Toddington but at least the diesels get a bit of a workout from time to time.

The comment I made about working a loco hard was with reference to the engine I am envolved with (4936)!! Thats what does it for me. The question I was asked was 'why do I volunteer and am interested in railways'. I gave my answer. Lol.
And a loco can still sound good on the GWR, with some drivers more than others! Just because we are a flat line doesnt mean the locos dont work! We have fantastic scenery to make up for it! I agree the little locos work harder than things like the Hall, and that does make it more exciting!?!

Hoping to see a few faces over the gala!!!

Cadbury No.1 is going to be at the Gala. She was looking good yesterday at Toddington -- all spruced up in a fresh coat of paint (but alas not in steam). Nice to see her outside of Tyseley again.

If anyone is thinking of videoing around the Dixton area be warned, the Bugati Owners club are running a hill climb at their site at Prescot - so plenty of noise! #-o ................. On the plus side, on Saturday Afternoon they have arranged a fly over by the Lancaster, Spitfire & Hurricane \:D/

Any idea what time and is it likely to be visible at Cheltenham R.C.? Marooned there selling tea and goodies (we also missed the flypast last year) :smt010

But please call in for a cuppa, all in a good cause.

Star of the show today must be No15, what a sound she made on the goods \:D/
I'd also like to especially thank the driver/fireman of City of Truro for the fine display around Chicken Curve 15:41 ex Winchcombe

Trains looked quiet full and all seemed to be more or less on time. Plus the booked good weather arrived in time :)

Just got in from a great day out at the GWSR! (Again).

This gala is always a highlight of my year, always has a great line-up and the weather is always fab, this year wasn't an exclusion.

The 5972 & 7903 DH was great, even though the signalman at RC stood in my 'original' shot, so I had to quickly adapt. Why don't GWSR staff use the crossings by the signal boxes to do a token/staff change? Not only is it better for people to video/film without the 'bobby' popping up a few seconds before the train arrives, there is no risk in the token being dropped on anyone on the platform.

Pairing 5526 & 178 worked well, something different and I thought it was intresting. Lovely burgers at Toddington, wanted another but didn't have time ](*,). Nice to see 662 with a Queen Mary, proper Southern pairing, had two brakevan rides within the RC station limits, enjoyed it a lot. The final one me and my four mates had to ourselves (+ Guard).

Why were the Mk1 sets swapped?

Great day out, hope the remaining three days go well, seemed very busy today.

Well I've just back from two wonderful days working on the GWSR, even if I have got rather sunburnt, and am knackered now! From what I could see though both days were very well attended and operationally went (apart from some minor late running which was quickly made up this afternoon) without a hitch.

Hopefully the remaining two days will be just as successful.

For those that are interested the all important photos are below!
