I hope they do better than the con-men who built "The Cabbage" (aka IMR No.21) or the Durango & Silverton's "$3 million paperweights".

34028 Eddystone is to visit the NYMR for their autumn steam gala, joining the previously announced Pendennis Castle and returning S160, 2253 Omaha.

    https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2024/08/steam-locomotive-34028-eddystone-set-for-yorkshire-visit.html?

Eddystone was previously resident at the NYMR I understand and 34101 Hartland is close to the end of its overhaul too, so Eddystone will act as a nice preview for Hartland’s return.

Incidentally, has a Merchant Navy ever graced the tracks of the NYMR? If not, it’s one I’d like to see!

I wouldn't hold your breath for Hartland, doesn't seem to be a priority,

The Boiler is naturally taking time, and with limited boilersmith hours, the running fleet have to take priority. That's not to say it isn't recieving work when time allows.

I wouldn't exactly say 34028 was resident when it came in 2006. That may have been the plan but it was failed after about two weeks with 833 miles on the clock (with slipped tyres from memory) and returned.
A Merchant Navy has never visited the Moors.
As for 34101, it'll be ready when its ready but don't hold your breath.

34028 was active for a bit longer than two weeks in 2006, Steve. I have a photo of it on shed at Grosmont on 19/4/06. It is facing north so presumably was recently arrived at that time. I have pictures of it working on a couple of occasions during May and had my only firing turn (one trip) on it on the 7/6/06. My last picture of it was on 17/6/06 shortly before it was withdrawn. As I recall it was stopped with slipped tyres as you say, caused in part by a repeatedly sticking steam brake. 06-6-7 5 34028 Levisham copy.jpg

Here it is on the occasion of my one firing turn on it.

Yeah IIRC the repair also saw the loco visit the Bluebell to utilise the wheel drop facility for the repair and in return the railway hired it for a year before returning to Swanage in 2008

I'll bow to your more detailed knowledge on its use, Peter. The 833 miles is the official record which, at the likely 72 miles/day is only 11½ days of use and the half day would have been the light engine move from Pickering to Grosmont so actually less than 2 weeks cumulative service.

It did. If memory serves me correctly, didn't SLL use a set of wheels from another loco to get it back into service. Can't remember, which one, though.

I've just read on the NYMR website that PENDENNIS CASTLE has had to be withdrawn with water carry over problems so can't be run at Didcot or anywhere else. The website says that they're actively looking for a last minute replacement and a further announcement will be made in due course. It's still worth going though with the existing line-up.

Oh, I was thinking of visiting on Saturday but the removal of the 16.40 from Grosmont makes it either a much shorter day or longer day for me.
Is it lack of available coaches?

The same services were cancelled yesterday when 2392 and 29 were showing on the roster. The 17.45 off Grosmont was the 9f and four coaches.

No. 4953 Pitchford Hall is replacing the previously announced guest locomotive, No. 4079 Pendennis Castle, which had to withdraw from the event due to issues with possible boiler water carry over into its cylinders. Courtesy of the Epping Ongar Railway.

    Separately, extract from FB:
“On Tuesday 3rd September 2024, there was a shunting incident in the sidings with no public access, at Pickering Station.

The safety of our staff and passengers is always top priority so the carriages involved in this incident
are being thoroughly inspected before going back into service.

We will be operating as normal with a reduced timetable and we will keep you updated as soon as we have more information available.”
