Many thanks for that. The NNR has to be really slick with that intensity of service as they were today.

Was especially pleased to catch up with 53809 at last. I don’t know if it's weathered look is deliberate but it wouldn't have looked out of place tucked away at Bath Green Park back in the day.

Action from the August Bank Holiday Gala - featuring 6880 Betton Grange, 4277, 18, 22, 53809 and D6732 with locations at Weybourne Station, and Weybourne and Kelling Banks. The opening scene with Betton Grange departing Weybourne captures the sound for most of the way up the bank, at 1/80

We went to the NNR on Tuesday.

In the morning we took a trip behind Bretton Grange - it just worked out that way but it performed well and seemed to be popular with the footplate staff. Coaches were tidy MK1's

In the afternoon Middle, Oldest & I took a trip behind the 31 with the Suburban set. I remember 31's in the late 70's/early 80's both in East Anglia and on the Western Region so it was good to ride behind one again.

    But the MK1 Suburban Set!!

Now a bit before my time but of course I travelled on both AC & DC EMU's which were similar in concept and layout, so they are historically important. They are in excellent condition and of course powered by an appropriate locomotive.

    Well done the NNR

For those who don’t click on Facebook links:
The North Norfolk Railway has reached an agreement with The Gresley Society that secures the long term future of Gresley N2 No. 1744.

The agreement should see the locomotive running again in 2025 following its overhaul.

1744 last ran in 2018 when it was withdrawn for a heavy overhaul, which was expected to take no more than 3 years.

I’ve just seen the timetable for the Autumn Showcase, but it doesn’t identify which coaching set is which. As I’m travelling for the stock, and am limited, that would be really useful information.

Assuming it follows the usual pattern:

A will be Mk1 mainline set (with RBR)
B will be Mk1 Suburban set
C will be Mk1 mainline set (with Gresley Buffet)
D will be Quad Art set

Just picking up on the above, the text on the website seems to indicate that the "Victorian Set" of 4 & 6 wheelers will be out too? Would that replace one of the MK1 sets or Suburbans?

I'm being spoiled today. Joint Line arrives AND a C&W blog, Doesn't make up for having the lurghy and missing the showcase weekend, but it takes the edge off a little. Thank you

BTW a top tip for anyone heading up to the NNR for the weekend by train - Greater Anglia are currently doing Hare fares, which are cheap, off-peak day returns. If you buy one for the day you travel up and one for the day you travel back and only use one direction each day they are also a cheap alternative to an off-peak (period) return and are as flexible (if you buy the return on the day of travel, obviously if you buy it in advance you can still choose which train but not which day to return)

With the apparent success of the visiting Austerity saddle tanks, could this see a move back to smaller industrials as motive power on the NNR?

Whilst it could be seen as a prudent move in this time when running costs must be kept under control, personally I hope this doesn’t mean the end of larger BR types on the line.
