I wonder what the odds are that this one will run, especially on a Sunday, Mothers Day comes to mind, and if it runs will it be Riley powered or something else?

Ian has stated that its uneconomical to move 45407 or 76079 down from the moors for the CME.

    Therefore my guess is Leander.

Rather than a Manchester start, why not start at Preston.. better connections for passengers coming longer distances to this trip and also much less light engine / ecs moves... it's going past Preston ECS anyway, i'm sure the extra mileage will attract a few more passengers than the cost difference between an ECS and a passenger move.

Here's a cheeky one.. 5043 will be in Crewe Saturday night, how about a Castle from Victoria on sunday :smt102

Firstly the silly problem of track access charges raises its head again.

Why an empty stock move of Cl47 + 7 + Steam should pay less than exactly the same formation as a train carrying passengers completely evades me, but that is why picking up at Lancaster / Preston / Chorley doesn't work unless the numbers are substantial.

    Secondly

The locos are no longer coming from Bury, so there is the additional time and complexity of either towing your kettle backwards from Carnforth for an anticlockwise circle - or running round Brewery.

Could you "lose" 6115 and seven in Liverpool Road overnight??? - just a thought :-k

    Track Access Charges for 2009:

    Class 47 = 46.69 pence per mile.
Mark 1 Coach = 5.42 pence per mile.

For a 12 coach train + Loco your looking around £1.12 per mile, at around 40 miles thats £44.00.

no differentiation between empty or with passengers.

WCRC could save money by using more 37's.. there only 32.82p per mile.
Steam Locomotives are charged at the same rate as a Class 47.
Preserved Diesels are charged at 41.42pence per mile.
If your using a Mark 2 coach, thats 5.82pence per mile.

Somewhere near the bottom of the pile a 142 will cost you only 3.95 pence per mile.

    Why is a mk2 more expensive than a mk1? They're lighter...

As you can see this is a report starting back in May before we knew Past Time were ceasing rail tours

Will West Coast take up the reigns for the Cotton Mill tours ?

Depends how or even if profitable it is, i suspect profitability is what has saved the Torbay programme from the axe.
