Interesting photo, thanks for posting. Hitting like for a photo of a failed engine didn't seem appropriate.

What is the situation with 60103, Could she be made ready to fill in, on the Lune River trust, assuming the new partners have registered her with West coast, and that there are support crew ready ,?

Something of concern to me was that 'Tangmere', following its failure, was hauled backwards out of Carlisle at the rear of the train with not only no tail light, but the headlight still on. A serious lapse, in my book. There is a video on 'YouTube' showing it by one Tim Geaney (at 12:41 in the film) - I've not copied it here in case of infringements. WCRC's basic operational safety procedures are in question again, methinks.

Tangmere did not go back to Carlisle after the failure. This was the path

Bilmy, you dont half see some absolute rubbish here at times. It was a shunt move for gods sake to turn the train so the lamp configeration is wrong in at least one direction of the move whatever you have at that end of the train. Or do you expect that a block is obtained on the ajacent line while someone climbs down to change the lamps at each reversal? Anyone would think that they set off over Shap or Beattock like that rather than it being a simple turning move effectively within station limits. Are you telling me that I operated unsafely when I was the guard on Thursdays similar turning move and if so what are your qualifications to make such an assertion? I would love to know. Were the signallers in Carlisle box also working unsafely when they watched the move and failed to stop it?

Sorry for the sharp response. You do your job, working in a goldfish bowl, to the best of your ability and then you get told that your "basic operational safety procedures" are questionable on an internet forum that you support and subscribe to. Makes you wonder why you bother.

Was trying to work out when "concerning" movement took place as I didn't think Tangmere visited Carlisle AFTER the incident!!!

I'd be more concerned about changing lamps under 25kv in the station TBH, when you're only going on a few mile shunt move anyway!

Tangmere was recovered by a class 47 and did not return to Carlisle.

The video you saw was of the empty stock and Tangmere being drawn out of Carlisle BEFORE the tour later set off south over the S&C.

It may also be best to check your facts before questioning railway procedures. <BJ>

What has been 'interesting' to observe all over social media is the glee and apparent hope that it will bring the end of WCR from so many 'enthusiasts' whenever literally anything happens, looking at places like WNXX its borderline unhealthy at times, albeit being picked up by certain moderators on there, the whole sector seems, to many, have become so polarised into team WCR vs Team LSL, as personified by much talk of 'Smith' and 'Jeremy'....

I's sure there is a saying somewhere, something to do with Christmas, Turkeys and elections a monopoly suits only the company it benefits and all that.

P.S. This isn't aimed at the poster at the head of these recent exchanges, just an observation all over the place over the last couple of years TBH.

Apologies for getting the movement concerned wrong (it was on 21 September), BUT the move, shunt or not, should still have had the correct lamps. 25kv overhead had no bearing on it as they are at low level, and access is gained from the platform to the buffer beam. Far from "glee", I fervently hope WCR do not get themselves into further trouble with stuff like this.

I think you have to remember that the WNXX website is basically followed by diesel enthusiasts. Whereas West Coast paint their locomotives in a sludge livery, LSL restore diesels to ex-works condition with popular liveries. Therefore, LSL are very popular with the diesel boys and West Coast are not. When a problem arises with West Coast all hell is let out, in particularly I recall the Wootton Bassett incident. Not a good time. <BJ>

I'm really pleased that you wish West Coast well. Thank you for highlighting to the public and various railway authorities who read these pages, West Coast's failures. <BJ>

Well, I surely can't be the only one to have noticed, but if my pointing it out prevents another lapse, it's worth it.

And probably explains why a lot of those at the 'sharp end' won't post on rail forums...
