Thanks to 5944 for posting my pic - my PC has been out of action but now recovered.

My photos of 86259 arriving at Carnforth with CME ecs on Sat 21st is here, followed by 47802 bringing Tangmere from Kirkby Stephen the following day:

Just out of interest what did the stock sound like, I have seen suggestion from some that it had wheels like 50p's due to the undoubted throwing of the brakes, but others suggesting that no such thing.

Luckily for WCR they have a spare cylinder on 34073 albeit no idea what state that may be in?

There was no obvious sound of flats on Tangmere or 47802.

In addition to unrebuilt 34073, Steamtown also has rebuilt 34016. Would a cylinder from Bodmin fit Tangmere?

Very good and well observed. :)

A slight body-swerve off topic. Way back early in June 1967, I was returning back to school from lunch at home, when I met a friend who excitedly informed me that "There's a Streak in the station!!", to which I retorted at maximum scoff "Don't be stupid, they're not allowed on this line", he persisted with "I'm not lying, it's just arrived!!", but that yellow stripe on the cab of a Streak couldn't be argued with. However, not wanting to be late for class, a quick check to disprove my friend was in order, so I ran down to the station car park to look across the running lines for that fake Streak, I would deal with the blatant fibber at afternoon break.......

School was literally opposite the station at Bletchley on the WCML, ideally placed for the many trainspotters attending Bletchley Grammar School and the car park was the best place to view the north end of the station and across to the carriage sidings and goods loops. "Hmm, lying toad, I don't see any Streak...", but wait, is that steam rising from under that coach over in the sidings.............

From my vantage point, all I could see was the rear of a "coach" with it's corridor connection, but it didn't take a nano-second for reality to bite - it was a corridor tender!! Blimey!! it was a Streak!! Sod class, I had to get across to the sidings pronto!! Over the fence, onto the station, a dash to the Cambridge platform and along the staff path to the sidings, where 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley stood at the very last water-crane in the area, a vision in blue, hissing steam and with the scraping sound of someone shovelling coal into the firebox. "can I come up?" I asked and with a beckoning wave from the driver I climbed into the cab and stood there in that dry heat in total disbelief, was I dreaming?? I totally soaked up what was indeed a very special moment, but that gnawing feeling inside of being late for school started to kick-in, so I thanked the crew and made my way to school, knowing that I'd be in for some serious telling-off and probably worse.

4498 was returning to Crewe after working a couple of rail tours from Waterloo during the previous weekend, despite the fact that A4s were banned from the WCML and wore that cab-stripe as a warning; however, now that "60007" had reverted to it's pre-war livery, it was of course no longer banned - simples!!

Detention!! now I would have to explain to my Mum why I was late home from school, with the lame excuse of that particular teacher hating me. But I didn't care, I had seen something very special and that tangible memory is seared into my memory to this day, wonderful.

    Cheerz,

    Alan
