Belmond consist includes a generator car, no diesel needed for electrickery production for cooling the champagne etc.

As I am in the UK this weekend I might pop out just to watch it pass. Any good places to observe it around Farnborough?

Yes I'm aware of that. I was simply addressing the comment about leaf fall.

Country end of Farnborough is fine.

Network Rail site implies from start of October. South Eastern Leaf Fall timetable starts on October 13, SWR September 22 as two TOC examples, so I guess you take your pick.
Industry guidelines for steam train lengths and loads that I think I must have been posted on here some while back (not sure where else I would have got it from) says September 15. But it is marked v1 from 2016 so there may be a later version bearing in mind climate change.

That was because the Belmond British Pullman now has a functioning generator car.
I understand that the Golden Age Of Travel as it is marketed for the Kent circuits will convey a DL on the rear on 24 & 31 October and 7 & 14 November as insurance.

    Cheers, Neil

So, it's air-con Mk2s and a diesel on the rear. That makes my mind up about getting up early to see it - many thanks.

Or, if you can't get onto the platform, the footbridge a few hundred metres to the east is good.

Yes but that was a DBS job and the pullman always has a genny car in the consist. As far as I know WCRC don't "do" genny cars (happy to be corrected if I have got that wrong) so while they have to use their CDL fitted Mark 2's (with their Mark 1's grounded) there will always have to be a diesel on the back whether it's leaf-fall season or not.

WCRC now have four generator cars after the purchase of the Riviera vehicles (two BGs, one Mk1 BSK and a Mk2 BFK), so hopefully in the future they'll be used. Still doesn't change the fact that steam on air cons is tedious though.

And, IMHO, if there are many more locations where there are overhanging trees, as on the 1/100 grade approaching Bickley Junction, and they are left unpruned to allow them to drop their leaves, then it may not just be trains hauled by Clan Line that need a diesel on the back.

That footbridge is quite high sided since its rebuild some years ago, and requires something to stand on to see over unless you are exceptionally tall.

The A325 overbridge directly at the eastern end of Farnborough station has a separate walkway on its eastern side, and this gives a good view of down trains, looking back towards the aforementioned footbridge.

Thanks for the heads up on the location. Clan Line sounded in good health and was impeccable, as always. Well done to the whole team. Phone camera footage was a bit dark, however a nice memory to take back with me.

Not sure it's broken down. It was sent out 25 early at BAS just in front of the charter and the ACE looks as though it's trundling behind. Seems like the freight didn't like the climb to Grateley.

Naff train control in my view.

Not that freight - there was one about 3 hours ago that lost an hour between Whitchurch and Grateley.

Not only that, it was signalled into 2 at Basingstoke where it was then held for an ECS 159 to go Infront, therefore delaying the 1W train and clan line just behind that!

On top of all that 1L17 got delayed behind the tour and has now overtaken at Salisbury. Clan Line will be waiting some time for the single line to Tisbury to clear now.
