    On a beautifully crisp and sunny Autumn morning, ex-LMS Black 5 4-6-0 No. 44871 heads south through Hartford station during a positioning move from Carnforth to Bristol on 18th October 2024.

    The loco had been booked to pause its journey at Hartford Junction, just visible in the far distance, to allow other services to pass, but it was running early enough for the signallers to let it carry on.

Having just crossed from the fast to slow lines south of the station, the driver of SNG opens the regulator and puts on a disply for the rather large crowd that had gathered all down the platform to watch its passing on its return to Crewe from the Bluebell Railway.
