The SD run to Bath on 30 November is shown on RH as "Steam TBA" - I imagine it is likely to be 70000. I had assumed it was steam both ways but RTT indicates that it is diesel from Salisbury on the return.

Well its highly circuitous route, with a scheduled ETA at Victoria of 23:30 would hardly be achievable with at least one, may be two extra water stops. Not like they get long in Bath anyway.

Engine and coach move back to Southall from Salisbury. Interestingly, the diesel coming down from Southall only gets there 9 minutes before departure, and arrives from the Westbury end so has to run through the station and reverse back on to the train.

Has been listed as 70000 and steam off at Salisbury on the return on the tour promotors website since August.

Obviously I would prefer 34046 but you get what you get.....

Of course, But i would like to know what I was going to get so I can decide if I want to get up early to go get it. Even worse being told what you are going to get, going out to get it, but getting something else you didn't want to get in the first place.

It's 56 years since the end of regular main line steam. It will be a steam loco - just be grateful. [BJ]

When you are leaving at 6 in the morning, driving 100 miles there, and wading through a flooded bog to get a shot, I am going to be a little bit picky about my target thank you very much. Done my gratitude apprenticeship during the times when there was no real time trains, services two hours late, tours that never ran, and tours where the 47 hauling the stock and pax broke down before it could join the rostered steam loco.

I would imagine that is a lie in compared to the early start that the support crews have to endure. [BJ]

You should be happy with whatever is provided Harry. Doesn't matter if you've paid money based on what was advertised.

Or does that only apply with the SVR and the Grange?

Who says I’m not happy. My preference would be for the Brit, but it’s going to be sunny, and it is steam. So please don’t tell me what I should be when I already am :)

I've come to this tour quite late, depsite it passing quite close to me in Surrey. It's a shame that the loco comes back to London anyway, but not on the tour. I take the point about water stops if the loco is working hard. I would love to see a Bulleid on these Southern metals but a 'Brit' is also superb.

Poor you. The only people who have any right to moan about a change in motive power are those who have paid good money to travel on the train. Without them and the support crew who spend at least two days away from home getting up a lot earlier than 6 am, you would be able to have a lie in every morning

Talk about taking a whole thread out of context, invent a complaint just so you can have a pop and get unjustifiably offended at someone who was providing a legitimate explanation about what trains they choose to film and why.

ECS for today's trip is currently sitting at Hornsey - it stopped at Finsbury Park for over an hour. I would imagine it would be at least half an hour late leaving. Handy for me as it means I can go and see it after the school run!

Had a text from SD saying they "estimate to depart 30 minutes late from King's Cross following a problem with the steam locomotive which has now been resolved"
