Sometimes it helps to look back and see just how far 82045 has developed from the early days of the project. Thanks very much to supporters and working parties.

The look back theme for 82045 with the Trusts second 'special'. The Eardington Explorer ten years ago, taking supporters and members for an enjoyable social day out to help with the projects fundraising. Vhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcuIQPoxszw&t=4s
A small Committee has recently been formed to organize a special train for supporters and members when 82045 has a fire in its belly, planning for which which is now in the early stages.

@Martin. Who knows! It is never a good idea to try and guess steaming dates for a variety of reasons, some fairly obvious, some not.
I think the trust do have a potential date in mind for steaming, BUT amongst the 'other things', this date must fit in with the SVRs requirements.

Seasons best wishes and thanks' to Members and Supporters.

What is the purpose of the cross on the tubeplate? Sorry for not knowing. Seen in photos from the November and December updates.

Further to Keith6233's response, it is actually a background marking paint on which fine and accurate centre-lines are marked, usually with a scriber. It makes them much easier to see.

I thought there was a boilersmith buried inside, the body dissolving the first time steam is raised!

Thank you Keith6233 and Steve. Not so sure about LMS2968s rather cruel proposal;).

Isn't that an old pagan ritual, whereby a boilersmith is sacrificed to the gods of smoke, heat and steam on every first steaming, or on the date of the winter solstice, whichever comes forth first, to ward off unwanted evil spirits such as clinkering, and leaking tubes, :D

For members, volunteers, supporters and those with a general interest.
The January edition of 'Steam Railway' has a very informative article by Trust Chairman Neil Taylor, with costs, estimates, photo's, the volunteers, people, progress and much more about 82045 in their section on 'New Builds'.
Best wishes for the New Year to all.

I would like to add a short personal addendum to the 'Steam Railway' article.
There are two further groups and names that I would add to that of the sadly missed, but never forgotten Chris Proudfoot, who's drive, vision and enthusiasm contributed enormously to getting the project off the ground and Tony Massau.

The SVR for giving 82045 a home base and the Bridgnorth Station Master for allowing the group to use some Station land close to the Engineering facilities.

Barbara Massau, wife of Tony, was the Trusts Secretary, Membership Secretary, General organizer of almost everything outside of engineering and always went the extra mile. Barbara left us after a short illness in 2023. She is greatly missed by all who knew her. The second person, another of the original volunteers from the projects inception was Colin Williams. A fountain of knowledge and poor jokes. Colin is happily still with us.

I think it is important that if an account of the history and development of 82045 is ever put into the public domain, important early contributors and originators be remembered. These pioneers were of course followed by a multitude of members, supporters and individuals, with remarkable skill sets. I doubt very much we will ever see their brilliant like again.

Colin was also a hard working member of the Stanier Mogul Fund in its early days and did much of the restoration work in the 1970s and 1980s, sometimes single-handedly. I knew he was still around, and it's reassuring to know his jokes haven't improved!

An absolute credit to the skills of the SVR boilersmiths - who have quietly got on with building an all new standard gauge boiler, in the UK, without any fanfare.
Really is starting to look close now, can't wait to see it steam.
