Coverage of The Jacobite near the end of September (24-26th) with 45212 handling the morning train and 37676 Loch Rannoch on the afternoon service - filmed between Beasdale and Mallaig - and with the usual emphasis on sound and scenery.

Some of my results from the last week of the 2024 season. An exercise in how to hide the awful rolling stock. Locations are -
leaving Morar, between Beasdale Tunnels 3&4, Kinlocheil, leaving the short Tunnel on the climb up from the Wetlands, Polnish, Corpach, between the two tunnels past Glenfinnan Summit (exhaust by request), digging into the climb from the short level stretch at Beasdale Station to Borrowdale Summit.

Thanks Pete, it’s a great part of the world when the rain stays off which it mostly did!

Ditto from me. At least the rubbish rolling stock can be (partly) hidden amongst the stunning landscape and colours.

WCRC advertising compartments on the morning service next year, but no buffet car on either. It'll be interesting to see what appears - as I've said on wnxxforum, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Smithy converted a Mk2 open into a compartment coach rather than fit CDL to a Mk1.

No need to convert if they have any of the first batch of Mk2 FKs.

They have one, and it's not CDL fitted. They've got a handful of early Mk2s that are CDL fitted but haven't been out in a while.

There's one air con Mk2 FK still around, at Great Yarmouth, but it hasn't seen passenger service in about 35 years.

I would hope that West coast treat the new exemption in the way it's intended, and that they fit enough mk1's out to form a rake for the Jacobite's in 2025, so they can operate 1 mk1 rake and 1 mk2 rake, whilst keeping the rest for the other tours, whilst putting the rest of the mk 1's through a CDL fit programme, and over time replacing more of the mk2's with mk1's for the steam hauled tours, the mk2;s can then find use with the non-steam hauled tours, and spot hire,
But the very worst thing Carnforth could do would be to use the new exemption as a means to not fit CDL, to carry on as before, that would see the exemption taken away, and ORR questioning was it right to offer any exemption to the company if it was never going to comply.

@martin1656 what is this new WCRC exemption, as I can't see one on the ORR website? It only shows that their exemption for Regulation 5 was revoked.

Orr have allowed new exemptions on reg 5 ,To SRPS, VT And to WCRC, on the understanding that they will with in the agreed timespans, fit CDL to their coaching stocks.

Martin - Please point me to a factual source for this latest exemption for West Coast. All I have seen is a passing comment from a NP member quoting their 'reliable source' stating an exemption was coming nearly a week ago. I'm sorry, but I have been around long enough to not believe anything until I see an official announcement.
If one does come, it will rightly have a very large number of strings attached which will be non-negotiable for West Coast.

A quick guide to fact checking important announcements regarding West Coast:

If or when an announcement does come, I'm sure I will be alerted by my YouTube timeline of the exclusive 2 hour broadcast by Green Signals from 'an industrial estate in NW England', where they will be making the balanced argument that the entire West Coast directorship should resign in 'fairness to luxury train operators further south in the UK'.
At that point I will check NP, where some kind poster will have put a link to the ORR website. Click this link for reality.
Hint: always check the origin of quoted 'trusted sources' on NP, if none stated - more likely 'Nags Head' than 'Jesson Way'.

They've always advertised this. Prior to 2024, there was usually a BCK in the morning Mk1 rake.
