Severn Valley Winter Gala 4th & 5th January 2025

SVR are once again holding a Winter Gala for January featuring:

GWR 1400 No. 1450 - returning after her most recent overhaul
GWR Manor No. 7812 'Erlestoke Manor'
GWR Hall No. 4930 'Hagley Hall'
GWR Pannier Tank No. 7714
LMS Stanier Mogul No. 13268
BR 4MT No. 75069

1450 & 7714 will double head throughout.

4930 'Hagley Hall' has been added to the lineup resulting in the original planned 9 departures from each end of the line increasing to 11.

Timetable was issued incorrectly so has now been taken down/is in the process of being taken down. Awaiting on the testing of 1450 to be completed before finalising.

Not sure on sets just yet, 1450 not yet passed to work solo trains, so is being looked after by 7714 for the weekend.

 

Are there any intentions to turn any locos prior to the weekend? My understanding is everything currently faces Kidderminster with the exception of 1450.

 

Possibly 7714.

 

Out of interest, what is required to pass 1450 to work solo trains? Is it just putting x amount of coaches behind it and seeing if it copes adequately or is there more to it?

 

Just running in. It’s not properly run in yet, and if it fails mid-event, then 7714 can then just work the train solo. Basically removes the risk element.

 

What's this about 7714 having a collapsed brick arch?

 

That was last week. It has been/is being repaired. It will run off Bridgnorth light engine with 1450 on Saturday. Provision has been made to turn it so both locos face the same way still, infact a lot of effort has gone in to ensuring it happens.

 

Really looking forward to this. Any info on pairings of carriage sets and locos yet?

 

Pretty much just standard winter sets. So maybe one or two mixed regions of coaches in and amongst. We run quite an intense Santa/Enchanted operation which ends up with the sets being mixed, and we don’t shunt them back to “normal” till generally after the close of the season. There is some shunting booked this coming Thursday/Friday, but no guarantees it’ll be uniform rakes if that’s what you’re after!
