That will likely be the run to York.

Maybe I'm being unduly pessimistic, but putting 34067 out on a 400 mile trip to Edinburgh and back along the ECML straight after having a cylinder repaired/replaced seems incredibly brave.

With nigh on 5 hours from Durham to Edinburgh, i dont think she has any need to stretch her legs.
We have done this path before, and it consists of watch the scenery for an extended period, a toot on the whistle, plenty of steam, then the diesel to notch 9 to keep your path.
Interstingly when the Black 5 did this within the past month i had forgot about it, went to Durham to pick my brother up, a gentle hiss of steam was drowned out by the Diesel giving it large.
You could barely hear the steam engine, for the racket, never mind hope everyone has a good day.

    Evening everyone,

It would appear that 44871, running as 5Z21, has encountered an issue, as it's been sat north of Tallington, and is over an hour late.
There was a DMU a few blocks behind it, which has now been reversed to Stoke Junction, to pass on the Up Fast.

1Z99 is now on the way from Newark...

Meanwhile, 5Z71, possibly 44871 returning from York to Southall, has spent a long while stationary on the ECML(according to RTT and Open Train Map) just north of Tallington, on the Up Slow line, causing delay to the following Liverpool to Norwich which has now returned north to Stoke Jcn, probably to gain the Up Fast. 5Z71 was 11 late when it came to a stand - and it's now been stationary for over an hour. Anyone know the reason? 1L14 still at the junction(7.34pm), four trains behind on the double track waiting for it to move.......Looks like something very worrying

There was a diesel on the back when the cylinder went pop at Kirkby Stephen, and when the con rod fell off at Winchfield. Yes, it'll help recovery, but blocking the S&C for a couple of hours is a bit different to sitting down on the ECML for the same amount of time. For a loco that's got a reputation as being a bit delicate at times, a long distance, high speed run along a busy mainline doesn't seem overly wise to me.

Update on the above(7.48pm). 1L14 remains at Stoke (Liverpool to Norwich) with trains behind and trains also at a standstill northbound.

Northbound services are running again, there's a veritable procession of southbound workings on the move now.

I wonder why she ran out of water?. Perhaps the tender, or the hose from the tender to loco has failed?. Was there enough water in the tender when she left York earlier?. Have they had to throw-out, or drop the fire?..

I've just heard that wonderful Stanier 'clank' from the motion in the wind, as she was moved south through Huntingdon Station. :)

It appears that she was without a thunderbird, as a respected enthusiast saw it at Biggleswade, from his house. It whistled for crossings.
